Headlight Igniter replaced | |
Ive been having the 'offside headlight doesn't always come on' problem so I got a new igniter and swapped it today. Taking out the headlight and removing the glass and access covers etc is covered elsewhere and was straight forward, the fiddly bit was removing the old igniter from the casing. It looked as if the std procedure would be to remove the chassis that holds the bulbs/reflector, but I didn't want to upset the headlight setting so I had a go at just removing the igniter first. The red bulb cap at the back was just a slight turn and pull off but it then had to pass between the bulb housing and headlight casing to be removed from the front with the igniter and it was just too big to squeeze through. I noticed that the housing isn't central to the hole in the rear of the casing that is normally covered with the large access cover but the length of the wires would not let the red cap reach the wider gap. If the igniter body is unscrewed (one of the screws is VERY difficult to get at) and pushed as close to the bulb housing as possible it then allowed the cap to go through the wider gap even though it was still a tight squeeze. Putting everything back together then testing, the light worked every time - but then again it did before, until it decided it wasn't going to. Time will tell if this has fixed it, but if I need to replace the ballast module that will be a lot easier. QUID FACIUM TIBI
