5hp24 oil cooler and thermostat

I am interested in any thoughts on the reliability of the transmission oil cooler and thermostat.

I have them off the car and am looking to replace after engine and box rebuild.

I have cleaned the oil cooler with a contiuous flow of kero, so no oil blockages.

Now to the general question, i have heard of this failing and letting water into the box, is this common or very rare?
Does anyone have any info on this? I dont want to throw money away, but i also dont want to blow the rebuilt box.....

Second question the oil cooler thermostat, i have heard of this going bad and only using heat function. Is this common, or rare. Also i live in relativly pleasant climates, uk, so i dont get really cold weather. Does it need the warm function?
Could it just be plumbed straight off the bottom of the rad to remove the thermostat? As i see it the thermostat is mainly there for the likes of camada and its winters....

Talking of rads i have not tested the flow of that, main rad, properly yet but it does seem good, bottom rows that is, using the tech note as a guide. I will do that when all pipes are refitted, so far i have carried out test with numerous pipes missing....

It's not oil flow through the cooler, it's water flow that reduces due to the sediment in the main rad moving to the oil cooler...

Personally only heard of the diesels leaking internally and they are different...

My thermostat for the cooler was seized solid, don't know how common this is...

Heat function only works when needed, what's the point of re-engineering the whole system to stop it and maybe damage something else....

If I were you I'd replace the main rad, the oil cooler, it's thermostat and the oil cooler pipes that either harden or collapse after time, small change compared to another engine or box rebuild.... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Pete
