Split Intercooler Hose..... Solution

Have you ever said to yourself that I'll get round to that job, yes, next week, next week, well I did and paid the price.

I've always replaced the intercooler hoses on my Land Rovers with silicone ones but since getting the Range Rover I've not got round to changing the hoses, even after reading many stories on here, which remind me to get round to changing them.

Well only a couple of weeks ago while going on holiday, one of mine split. It was the top passenger side one and in a place were a repair didn't work. The split was on the inner side of a bend, I tried to seal it and got about 4 miles but kept going into limp mode. I had another 60 miles to go. So ordered a big yellow taxi which took us the rest of the journey.

Repaired the pipe the next day and it did work, but I had to drive 380 miles back home at end of week. I have a Land Rover warranty on the Range Rover so booked it in and got the pipe replaced under warranty. Got them to replace the other one too, just in case. Drove home no problems.

Now I know they are new pipes, but thought I WILL replace them.

Well, what do you know, one of the sites sponsors now stocks the silicone hoses, PETE BELL, BAS, Bell Auto Services.

Ordered the pipes one day and the next day they arrived. Kit comes with two hoses, (they are a lot thicker than OEM!) and FREE jubilee clips to fit them. (Stainless steel clips)

Well I couldn't wait to get them on, so getting home from work, up with the bonnet, removal of the V8 engine cover, and off with the old and on with the new, all done quicker than it will take to read this thread. And whilst engine was still hot !!!!

The old ones came off quite easy, I placed the jubilee clip on the hose first and pushed on the hose, engine side first and made sure it was all the way home, moved it about a bit so not to have it bent or under pressure, then tightened up the clip, then put on the other clip and pushed the other side onto the intercooler. Did the same with the other side and JOBS a good un.

Looks quite good too.

Now I know it could be my mind playing tricks (doesn't take much) but I'm sure the car response a tad quicker under initial press of accelerator due to the pipe being quite thick there isn't much expansion of the pipe.

Anyway, heres the link to Pete's site where you can place an order Thumbs Up

I carry silicone rescue tape specifically for this.

But will keep these hoses in mind. Thanks. ______________________________

I know how you feel!

Did mine this week. Because of where I am the ''repair job'' with duct tape had to last a few weeks!

Cheers, Jerry
