Good afternoon all!

I've had a series of 4 Land Rovers in a row: 3 Freelanders and a 2015 D4, which I love. However, having now seen the D5, I've been looking at options for something else....

Please may I throw a few questions about the RR L405 over to you knowledgeable people?

1. Does the current TDV6 3.0 have the same sequential turbo charger of the SDV6 in the D4, or is it "just" a single turbo?
2. How does the 4.4 V8 compare to the 3.0 V6 to drive?
3. What sort of real world MPG do you get out of your 3.0's and 4.4's in these? I'm getting 27mpg around Devon & Cornwall (where it's a bit hilly), but long journeys in flatter areas see it returning 30-31mpg?
4. Is the any noticeable difference between the quality of the leather on the seats between a Vogue and a Vogue SE?
5. Is there much of a step up onto the folded back seat when loading?

I don't know them all....

2) V8 has noticeably more torque and is quicker to overtake at motorway speeds, but it's not as quiet as the V6 - you should really drive both as each have their supporters.

3) I have a heavy right foot, but I get that sort of MPG from an SDV8 - others are getting mid to high 30's on a run but I haven't managed that yet - but my 'runs' are usually at 90

4) Doubt you'd notice, but the VSE has cooled front seats as well as heated.

5) it's not a step, so much as a ramp. The base of the rear sear stays put and the back folds - so it doesn't go flat. On the VSE, the folding is electric

Hi, I'm in a very similar position to yourself. I had a 2013 HSE Lux D4 and loved it but as I change my cars every year I've had three L405's since then. Again like you I've taken a close look at the D5 and will go and view it before I make a definite decision on my next car but the ways things look it probably won't be the D5.

The thing is by the time you spec the D5 to where I'm comfortable, it's actually more expensive than a 12- 18 month old L405 and whatever you say the full fat is better finished than any new Disco.

I've had one Autobiography and two VSE FFRR and to me it's a no brainer that the VSE is the sweet spot of the range in terms of what I need. It's a lovely place to sit and let the world go by. And that brings me on to the engine choices. I've only driven the 4.4 SDV8 for a week but it's a really good' if a bit raucous under load. Some will like that and it certainly wouldn't put me off buying one at the right price but for me the 3.0tdv6 is a peach in this car. Even more so that the Disco. The noise is better suppressed and it's beautifully smooth in all situations. It's certainly not under-powered, despite what some say and remember that there's not even a second between the 0-60 mph times. That's why I've had three of this derivative.

In terms of economy, an indicated 40+ is attainable on a run. In fact I've had mid forties on a sedate (just under 70) motor way 200 mile run. I'd never get better than 35 mpg in the D4 in similar situations.

Personally speaking I don't think that you'd find a lot of difference between the 4.4 SDV8 and you Disco in terms of MPG, maybe just marginally better in the Disco.

As you've mentioned the boot isn't quite as big in the full fat but it's certainly a big boot but as it's a longer car than the Disco what you will find is that there is more room in the passenger compartment, so if you need to drop the seats it's every bit as big although there is the rear sloping roof to consider.

The semi analine leather in the VSE and AB is nicer than the Vogue leather but all are nicer than the grain in the Disco. As I said, the VSE is the sweet-spot for me because it comes as standard with Adaptive Cruise Control, the 825 Watt Meridean, soft close doors, terrain response 2, dual view tv screen and configurable mood lighting. Personally speaking the only item I really missed from my AB was the winged headrests, so made sure I got those in my latest VSE.

I have always considered that LR Discovery 4 was THE BEST value car land rover made but they've certainly made it a more expensive proposition and so I personally think a nearly new L405 is the way I'll be going.

My interior is ivory and as Basil stated mid 40 S mpg is definitely obtainable. I do WARN you though that if you drive one you WILL want one !
