Hi all, for some inexplicable reason my DSP amp has stopped working after it had a shower And I nowfind myself seeking a replacement..... Talk about silly money If I have to buy a Range Rover one it will be cheaper to do away with it all and fit an Android type head

But being the lazy git that I am I'd rather not go to all that faff if I can avoid it, plus I know the sound from a new system wont be quite as good as the DSP system, and then it will bug me and I'll spend lots of hours and dosh trying to improve the sound back to original I spent a considerable amount on the ML trying to get it to sound more like the ffrr.. almost there but not quite

So I've been looking on the Bay of Fleas and I've been rather shocked to see that what I thought was a hundred pound fix, is trending at nearer a three hundred pound reason to ditch the lot and start again..... However.... The BMW DSP amps are still trending around the hundred pound mark.. but will they work? or is it a case that they don't speak Range Rover and I'll be left with no sound, except  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

There's a guy called Ali who lives in Rochdale who repairs them for about £100. He advertises on eBay and also adds the facility of an Aux connection so you can plug iPods/phones into the system.

He seems to know what he's doing. Current:

I think that's the BM54 radio unit, not the DSP amp

I could only find 1 person offering repairs to the DSP amp and that was £300+ I sort of switched off when the price went over £100 Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I've just finished a modification to feed my iPod direct to the RR DSP's digital input, and to provide control from a tablet.
Almost all the information which I have relied upon to generate the interface commands has been gleaned not from Range Rover forums (fora?), but from ones dedicated to BMW.
From that I think it's safe to conclude that the BMW DSP is directly interchangeable with a Range Rover unit.

I have however seen a number of comments relating to the different manufacturers of the DSP: Philips is one, Lear is another, but I can't remember the third. There are suggestions, albeit with little to substantiate them, that the quality varies between the three, with Lear being best.

Miggit I have located my amp which I never used as it was the wrong one for my car. It came straight from the retailer (used unit)

Will put pics up for you today so u can see if it is the correct one for you.

I have the Lear amp, and while they are silly money with the Land Rover sticker on them, the BMW labelled ones can be had for a third of the cost  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Maybe to obvious but Have you tried cleaning all the green corrosion off the pins?

BBA reman may be the guys you were talking about RE fixing them, if not the the might be able to help. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Hi, I have fitted a DSP from an X5 and works perfectly without mods . And just to get you jealous, I won the auction for £10 which included a DSP, 6 CD changer , subwoofer and a ULf !! Bob

My amp doesn't have the corroded pins, in fact it doesn't really show any signs of water ingress, other than it was wet and it didn't work plus it was draining the battery over a 24 hour period and causing the central locking to go normal, instead of having to press the button 50 times to open all the car and not instantly locking the car when it detected movement...... was rather nice that, and then normal service was resumed when the DSP was unplugged  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

A bit late I know but Ali Sound Secure, 12 Kirklee Road,Rochdale OL11 2PN, can usually repair them. Just repaired mine & the radio tuner for £200. Both water damaged.
His number is 07501 312152. Gives a lifetime warranty but not against water ingress

My amp gave up a few weeks ago. I've just bought a BMW Lear one from the US. Looking forward to music again! Surprising what you miss when it's not there.
