Not Sure

I have been offered a 2005 TD6 vogue with 152000 on the clock, one owner but no mot
and its black with dark grey leather, needs 2 tyres and front windscreen for mot as far
as I can see as it drives smooth , but there is a rumble when I put it in low gear which
I can feel while parked, did not drive it in low as I run out of time and had to go but I said
I would let him know by Monday either way . £4000 Cash I can get it for so now I have to
make up my mind whether to chance it and hope it dose not cost me a fortune to keep and
run as I am not rich and I like to keep my cars a long time before change.

United Kingdom 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Buckingham Blue

Hi - and welcome to the forum, the car sounds like it could have transfer box problems and you should price up replacement of that plus all the other bits for the MOT and you probably wont be far off the price of a sorted one with less miles.

Your gut feeling is likely to be sayng "dont do it" but the price is tempting you to take a punt - listen to your gut lol.

The problem with these cars is that people find one they can just afford and then buy it. No ready cash left means that maintenance gets trimmed back and problems build up to the point where they are horribly expensive.

You need to get one that you can afford to buy AND maintain. And it won't be cheap. But will probably be worth it.

There is no better car if you look after it. If you can spanner it yourself than that will be a big help. If every little job involves labour rates then you need to go in with eyes open.

I'm guessing the current owner doesn't have the funds to repair either because it's one of those cars that was bought and run on a shoestring or the repair costs are significant.

Whichever way you look at it, unless you can read the codes and the car comes with a bulging history file of all works done, for a couple of thousand more, you are in the realms of a beautifully and meticulously maintained enthusiasts car.

The right car is out there but it is up to you whether you wish to gamble or be patient.

Put the registration number in the DVLA MOT website and see what it failed on in previous years, gives an indication of how well its been looked after

Worries me when people rock up for an MOT with barely legal tyres. Shows a lack of attention to maintenance.

But that's just me.
