United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover SE Td6 Zermatt Silver

Yes I do as I like funfair rides...

It beats Thorpe Parks best ride to be hurtling along at 90 mph in the fast lane having fun on Adaptive Cruise when an Articulated Lorry with large trailer pulls out into middle lane and the Range starts to brake from 90 to 55 despite the lorry not entering the fast lane..... (yesterday and many times in many RR)

Anyway cars are to be driven not assisted... Whistle

Glad it's not just me - I'm getting used to driving to compensate, but I don't get on particularly well with ACC and I wish I could turn it off.

We went from a 4.2SC to looking for a 5.0SC... covered 22k miles in 2 years of 4.2 ownership... If you were ever to read my previous posts on the 4.2, you would understand why I now reflect God only knows how we managed 22k miles Laughing

Couldn't find a 5.0 in nice enough used condition. Did find an immaculate 12MY 4.4TDV8. Drove it and whilst a different animal, it didn't seem underpowered or course compared with the 4.2. The condition of it compared with the 5.0 offerings we saw (combined with the fact it was also newer and with lower mileage, meant that the search was over).

12 months and 12,000 trouble free miles later and pleased to report it's a lovely car to drive. It's no 5.0SC but is plenty powerful for our needs and a lovely 8 speed autobox makes it both pleasant, refined on long journeys and fun to drive.

If you choose the right car, whichever variant is right for you at the point of selection... You probably won't go wrong Thumbs Up

Well, what a minefield.......was trying to get a 60K miles 5.0 for my budget. On the face of it there appear to be plenty about, but looking a little closer at the dealers reveals some real horror stories.

Anyone got any thoughts on those to be avoided?

Now beginning to think that mileage is less important and I should buy from a trusted site sponsor, perhaps Smile

Dealer wise, i think that they have good and bad days. Sometimes someone can slate a dealer yet someone else sings their praises.

FWIW:

MD or Site sponsor
Warranty
Condition over milage
service history - complete and stamped by MD or reputable specialist, folder of invoices preferable

or something from a member who has cherished it.

Never had a problem with my MD, always been very decent to deal with, and have seen a lot less of them since getting the 4.4....... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I suspect that the 4.4 TDV8 is pretty good, I jumped from a 3.6 Diesel Vogue to a 5.0 SC AB, I actually thought the 3.6 was quick enough (and it was) but the 5,0SC is much quicker (scarily so) and such a pleasure to drive but I don't like the constant visits to the garage for fuel, as I've said before it's not the cost of the fuel - but the nuisance of having to get it. Geoff

Sadly, very few in MD's if any, Indies only and that's where things can get interesting...particularly Essex way seemingly.

Photoshop skills are excellent mind!

If you are talking about Saxtons, they do seem to have a bad reputation, yet one of my best mates bought an X5 off them for his SWMBO and sings their praises....... Odd because everyone else seems to think the opposite. Never had any experience my self so can't directly comment tho Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

We had a similar issue... advertised as glittering with top end screen prices to match; and on even a superficial walk around EVERY ONE was not gold and in fact most were dogs, even one very low mileage one. After many long wasted journeys to see poorly presented 5.0 on MD forecourts, it was frustrating. But having had a 'mare with our 4.2SC, the LR warranty was/ will always be an essential requirement for us.

Add to that, the fact that when we were looking, the newest for sale were 2010 (nothing wrong with that) so choice was limited/ obviously fewer petrols than diesels.

So, having heard good things about the 4.4TDV8 we started to have a wee look and what we found were more of them, newer, and some very nice cars, maybe a bit more expensive at the time; and overall, food for thought.

15 months later and it was the right decision. Plenty to like about the 4.4TDV8 and as nmj says, have rarely had cause to visit the MD (apart from servicing and preventative maintenance to date) and if fuel consumption or weariness at regular fill ups are issues, then the 4.4 is pretty decent on consumption for such a big car.

Thumbs Up

Well 5.0 SC it is then, thanks very much to Gary Elliott for sorting me out a beautiful example.

Bow down Bow down Thumbs Up

good choice and Gary is a good guy Thumbs Up

I came from a RRS TDV6HSE back in 2006 (my wife never liked that smell of the Diesel and call it a shoebox) - car sucked in wintertime with the additional heating system and the smoke it made!

Since then i had an L322 4.2 SC, L322 5.0 SC and now an L405 5.0 SC - they are so much better to drive just like Gary said Twisted Evil

PS. @ Gary you are not so good with the internet eh mate your FB site was last updated a year ago hahaha Laughing All my spelling errorz are belong to me!
