SandyT - when i lived in France - you didn't get a 45 Euro fine for speeding 2 kms to high - i NEVER paid any fine and drove always without a valid driving license - but now days they adopted all the EU regulations even better than Germany - you got lucky to Brexit Smile All my spelling errorz are belong to me!

It's 90 EUR these days for speeding - don't ask how I know that Whistle

But for a UK registered vehicle, you need to be physically stopped - the cameras don't matter Thumbs Up

You can of course get a film that prevents the number plate being photographed not that I would know anything about that

Its been a long day Rolling Eyes I tried all that stuff years ago and collected a few points but I am led to believe if you tape a piece of card over the number plates you don't get caught Whistle

Talking about points...your driverslicense in France starts with 12 points, every driving mistake seen or caught on camera costs you money and points. Living here now for 16 years and lost a few, but got them all back each and every time, after 6 months without "driving errors"

There are a number of clever companies that spotted a way to make money. They know the authorites of the country don't have time or the resources to chase foreign drivers for the fines so they offer a type of no win no fee deal with the authority. They are given the offending pictures and then approach the licensing authority in the country the car is registered in for the driver details. Then they send an official looking letter asking for the money to be paid to them of which they give a % to the authority the offence took place in minus admin costs etc etc.

Not personally seen it with speeding tickets but seen it with parking tickets. A quick letter back asking for more proof normally makes the situation disappear again. 2008 TDV8

We were quite taken by Uzes in the Languedoc near Nimes. We also benefit from BA flight concessions so handy if an airport nearby that BA flies into but not essential

@ Sandy, You haven't indicated where your place in France is (Edit: see it's in the Pas de Calais). Do you want a similar area with a better climate or somewhere different as well as a better climate. Do you want to be near other immigrants? (I dislike the term ex-Pat for those who are moving with a view to permanency. Sad ) Rural or village or town? Sports or outdoor activities? Clubs or associations?

It would help with any advice. Thumbs Up

PS. I am 40km south of Limoges. John
