I did not think they could test the handbrake on the mot or even any of the brakes which in itself sounds crazy. My tester puts some gadget in the motor and takes it for a short drive and stamps on the brakes and am certain he does not test the handbrake, just as well as it is crap and I never use it.

This is because the normal test rig in the garage is set to test 2 wheels at a time - which can't be done with permanent 4x4.

What he (hopefully they) are using is a decelerometer. This is effectively a pendulum attached to an indicator needle that shows the braking efficiency - but only all 4 wheels at once.

It is perfectly possible to test the handbrake using this - remembering that a handbrake is only required to be 16% efficient

I fondly remember the original RR with its transmission brake - apply that on the move and then scrape yourself off the windscreen

^^ Now your talking....... a proper hand brake that really worked Thumbs Up

My car has been on both 2 and 4 post lifts, and a scissor lift too, my only observation is if your doing anything that involves removing wheels a 2 post is the only safe option..... ffrr's and jacking beams don't see eye to eye Whistle as the chap who did my MOT found out..... new pants please Shocked Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... I was trained not to apply the transmission brake on the move unless in an emergency as it could result in expensive damage to the transmission. John
