I have a KME gold vaporizer on my FFRR.

The Mrs filled up with water yesterday and left the expansion cap off and we over heated, I wanted to give it a service and a repair, I've been looking at the following and wondered if anyone has any experience in servicing/ preparing a vaporiser?

Hey Pete-I strike again!

The car broke down on the girls and they got recovered- details are hazy but the needle went up (no idea for how long) and the car stopped on them halfway round a roundabout.

Went to check the faults, battery dead- a recurring theme.

I opened up the bonnet and found the cap half off and coolant all over the tank. I filled up the system & went for a run, all seemed fine.
Got back and found the water running out of the water pump so have ordered the viscous removal tool and a Hellas water pump.

Checked the faults with some charge in the battery and just the same two recurring camshaft faults- they are in the over retarded position. No faults saying the eligible overheated which is weird.

Having read Spocks issues on vaporiser diaphragms following the engine getting warm and having had them go on boat of mine previously it seemed worthwhile doing for £12.

I'm guessing just isolate the gas feed and disassemble then reassemble.

You will need to take the vaporiser off to change the diaphragm, no need to isolate anything, with the LPG system turned off all that will escape is the gas in the pipe... it's heavier than air so be carefull if you do it indoors...

Mr Spock was lucky with his, it came apart OK and went back together OK... this is not the norm....

I never bother any more, any sign of deterioration and I just change the whole thing.

At £12 it's probably worth a go though... and they will probably accept a return on it if you have to buy a new one....  Pete

Mine would have been megabucks to replace! It's worth a try. It was very obvious where mine was leaking though, and I had a failed clamp on a water hose too.

Yeah Spock- I've chewed through a few £300 BRC vaporisers on boats!!
Just so I know how much gas escape to expect- is it more or less than de coupling the fuel filler

Since mine was leaking, there was no gas between the shut-off solenoid and the filter. The passages are small, I can't imagine it would be much more than the filter. You'll be emptying the filter and the pipe leading to it. Having said that, I would say that if there's no leak, leave it alone.
