Mixed CDs - playback in L405

OK, hopefully one of you wise chaps will know the answer to this. Now don't take the pee, but I have a number of DJ Mixed CDs - think Trance / Club style. I've tried importing these into the I-Junk-Pod, both a Gen 4 and a Gen 6 with the latest version of 64 bit iTunes. All I end up with are those hateful 3 second gaps between tracks, the sort of thing which might cause the death of a club DJ if he did it in a live situation. I know, I've been there Laughing

So, if the i-junk won't do it, and I'm not entirely convinced it won't. Perhaps I'm not using the right settings. Anyway, since the IPOD is only USB connected in the L405 unlike the dedicated interface in L322 it must be possible to do this with a USB stick perhaps.

I have (I think) the middle range Meridian system. No facility to actually import a full CD to the car like the BMW so short of carrying a bunch of CDs (that's just so 2001) how on earth can I get what I want please chaps? Just want my Choons without gaps please. Bow down

It's how we used to get decent audio material before the tone deaf brigade decided MP3 was the way forward Laughing

have a look at this tutorial Dom.

its an old version of iTunes but it might work, not sure the options are all there on the newer versions of Tho. I presume you would then import the playlist to your iPod as normal and it would play gapless. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Having said that Embarassed

It seems that with services like Spotify etc it is now possible to have the stuff in high definition, i.e. CD quality but that requires a fairly hefty internet connection which I don't have yet.

I still tend to use unofficial download sites to have a listen in FLAC. If I like it I order a CD on Amazon etc. If I don't like it I just delete it. It actually saves a fortune 'cos I won't buy a CD for 1 decent track and 19 duff ones. I do tend to load them all into the Bose unit we have as that will play pretty much anywhere round the house, including the gapless CDs. Bose can manage this mild feat of engineering but it seems crApple have much to learn.

I still have plenty of vinyl which sadly won't play in the car Rolling with laughter

However, a well recorded CD, I.e. One with proper levels of dynamic range and not overloaded is 99% as good as vinyl. MP3 is a whole other matter though.

@NMJ. I tried that and iTunes will indeed play gapless on the PC. Sync it with the IPOD and you get all the gaps back. Apple strikes again it seems and there are numerous feature requests in the apple forums for this exact thing.

However, the upside is that having found how to enable CD upload to othe car it will quite happily play gapless and retain the ability to skip individual tracks if desired. Max of 10 stored CDs though but better than nothing. Amazing really, Land Rover managing to do something right when Apple can't.

LMAO at that. I actually used to have an 8-Track in a Mk3 Ford Cortina.

^^. MP3 can never be the same. It uses compression algorithms which are approximate so if one section of music sounds approximately like another it will only store it once, perceptual coding they call that. Nothing below 50Hz is stored and that makes a massive difference considering we can hear down to 30 ish. Nothing above 14KHz where I can still hear to over 17. It's a poor sample and that's the kindest words I can find for it. Another word might be S followed by hit.

Also, it's digital compared to vinyl being analogue so you have sampling going on there as well. The same is true for CD to a lesser degree since that is a much higher sample rate. There is also the whole thing with recording companies overloading CDs to make them loud so we (the customer) get a much lower dynamic range. Without quiet there can be no loud, it just all ends up being tiring to listen to.
