You should leave it in high range if you are doing normal driving in the snow - if you dont you will have too much torque going to the wheels and it will want to spin.

You should be able to leave it in high or low range for any of the terrain response settings.

Yes, you can select GGS mode and leave it in high range. Can also select this mode while on the move. With regard to the slip/slide, not sure about that, but main differences are the throttle response is reprogrammed and reduced to minimse the wheels spinning, also the car will start in 2nd gear for lower torque and thus again reduce chance of spinning wheels.
