Rear centre vent repair

Hi All,
I am trying to repair the stuck fan control on the rear vents of my 2006 L322 Vogue SE. The knob circled has only limited movement:

I have freed up the mechanism but there is an arm pictured below:

Which runs in a slot in the arm that swings the shutter of the vent on/off. I include top and side views below. This easily comes out of the slot if any resistance is encountered and I can't work out if there was originally another part that fitted on the end circled (see pics below and above) to retain it in place.

Can anyone advise?

Hi,

Sorry about the short and obvious reply, but have you checked the other side to see what it has in place or are both of them goosed?

Actually there is only one unit. It is the one at the rear of the centre console supplying air to the rear passengers.

You seem to be describing them both as vent controls. The left one is the fan speed control and the right hand one opens both vents. Apologies if I have misunderstood.

PS. Have read your first post again and note you say fan control. As said, my apologies. Embarassed John

Yes it is the left hand side one I am having trouble with. It is labelled as a fan speed control but in actual fact when you get it out it has 2 mechanisms. It mainly swivels a large baffle at the rear of the unit that impedes the flow off air (this is the lever mechanism I am referring to) then there is a microswitch that activates at the end of the travel. On the other side of the unit there is no visible mechanical attachments to the "hot/cold" button.
I am interested in whether anyone has had these apart before and whether the left hand mechanism looks as mine does or whether there is something missing form the area I have indicated?
