Ok, I'm back after a long time in a Q7, and still not fulfilled my FFRR dream.

Not wanting to spend more than £14-15k, with a bit of a slush fund for any issues, my question is, is the Supercharged any more or less reliable than the diesels?

Hate diesels, but if needs must, for resale and reliability, then I will go down that route.

Recently got my 07 SC. Not planning on doing many miles i decided it was the better option over the 3.6TDV8.

For the same price you can get a similar spec car with less miles than a diesel equivalent. Diesels also arent good if you do lots of short journeys. Not saying the SC's are completely trouble free but i really didn't fancy having to pay out for replacement turbos, as they are known to go. So the extra fuel cost is worth it..... Jordan

The choice will depend on what you are using it for.

Personally:

Long journeys - diesel
Short journeys - petrol

The performance difference is there but the 3.6 is plenty powerful enough, there are niggles with both, but the 4.2 seems to have less problems engine wise. Have a read of the wiki buying guide, it will give you some pointers.

The obvious things on the 3.6:
Turbos and inter cooler pipes
Alternator
Suspension bushes

I think you should get a nice 3.6 for that kind of money, or as said a lower mileage 4.2 which seem to have less specific problems overall, but you will still get the generic FF issues.  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
