MPEG4

Currently have upgraded the tv unit to mpeg2 digital. However, earlier this year all terrestrial tv in France was changed to mpeg4 and consequently cannot receive tv here. It works fine in UK as transmissions there are dual mpeg2/mpeg4. As I am in Uk about once a year it doesn't make for a lot of viewing. Very Happy

My question is has anyone upgraded to mpeg4 and if it is at all possible?

from memory john our UK HD channels use mpeg4 hence the dual mpeg2/4 tuners we have ..

sounds like the french mpeg4 are SD?

members here from ireland have the same problem as they also use the mpeg4 system..

i'm curious to know if my slightly newer [2012] tuner will cope with the new french transmissions ... - .- -.

The French mpeg4 is hd, Stan. My understanding is that although the transmission is in hd it is still possible to have a picture on an sd screen.
Open to correction.
You say there are mpeg2/4 decoders? John

sorry john, my confusion...

what i can make out is the UK SD is mpeg2 and the UK HD is mpeg4..... the FF's tuner only receives SD so its a mpeg2 tuner..

saying that, the freeview wiki says that france is also mpeg2 for SD and mpeg4 for HD, unless that wiki is now out of date? ... - .- -.

It changed from mpeg2 to mpeg4 in April this year and so only hd for terrestrial, Stan. If your tuner is only mpeg2 you won't get French tv in the car. John
