I don't purposely seek out your threads to dis-credit anything you say. But some of what you come away is, is quite frankly, laughable.

Every job has a book time, which is the maximum allowed time when being charged under warranty, not allowing for exceptional circumstances, such as a snapped 2.7 glow plug...
Maybe the dealer in question got lucky, and all 6 plugs came out OK, where 1.7hrs would be a fair amount of labour to charge. Would you still expect them to charge 1.7hrs if the plugs snapped, and they had to lift the body to take the heads off. I think not...

If that were the case, 2.7 timing belt quotes would all be fairly similar, no? Some dealers can replace them for £399, other dealers charge around £950, and there is a certain dealer up this way who charges £2100! Book time is around 5 hours or so. Some make a small.amount of money from them, others a lot of money Laughing

I would think, in your case, because it sounds like you send a lot of cars back to the main dealer for work, they do you a favourable deal, as you keep them in work. But as I said, I can assure you, this is not the case for the majority of retail customers. The dealers know how long a job takes to carry out, instead of what LR say, and charge appropriately Thumbs Up

Well done Mickey... Point made “once again" Banging Head

If the glow plug snaps then its NOT simply changing the plug IS IT!!!

The point was changing all 6 glow plugs on a 2.7 engine takes on average longer than 1.7hrs & can be a real Censored of a job! SIMPLES!!! Rolling Eyes

Im not spending anymore time having you try to wind me up Mickey... Kindly stay AWAY from my future posts!

To be honest i didn't see Mikes post as trolling, he wasn't rude or offensive in any way, although there does seem to be an ongoing personal disagreement between the two of you.

There is a book time for everything, it's used for warranty claims (because that's all the warranty firm will pay), estimates for customers (how long they'll need your car and how much it's likely to cost) and for the purposes of workshop/staff scheduling. But it's not a fixed upper limit to how much the dealer can charge, for commercial reasons they may not even charge the full book price for a job or not charge you for any hours over the book time, but some do. They do have the incentive to keep their charges reasonable in the customers eyes because they don't want too many negative surveys to JLR CS.

Dealers do vary in quality from one town to the next, Craig like me it seems you have a good one local to you.

And if you do send a lot of work their way they're naturally going to give you preferential rates especially if you're a trade customer.

Myself i get varying trade discount on parts, because of the number of Jaguar and now Land-Rover parts i buy from their parts department. In fact I still get a discount from my local Citroen parts department - because back when they were a Rover dealer i used to spend a fortune in bits for my Mini! Very Happy

Not trying to wind you up Craig, just setting out the FACTS. Having worked inside a main dealer for best part of 5 years, I know what goes on, book time is the maximum allowed chargeable time under a warranty claim, as confirmed above Thumbs Up

Book time for glow plug replacement on the 2.7 is actually 1.1hrs. And they are easy to replace within the allocated time, unless they are seized, at which point it becomes a PITA, due to risk of breakage

Mine now has a permanent P040D code. Can anyone advise the resistance of a good sensor or a bad sensor?

Also, can anyone advise what the ECM strategy is for a sensor out of range - eg more or less EGR? No performance issues exist at the moment.

Edit: After some self-education on EGT probes I've learnt that the resistance should not be more than about 1 ohm as they're only 2 wires twisted together. Hence it should be easy to check if the sensor is dead.

Its internal resistance is over 36K ohms so it's definitely dead.

Another edit: old sensor 30.3K ohms on removal, new 28.6K so resistance not indicative of failed sensor.

R&R'd in less than 1 hour.

Did you ever make any progress investigating these fault codes as I seem to have a very similar set?
