I am currently still on my winter snow and ice pirellis....
I have 2 Summer pirellis in the garage nearly new and one spare with about 3 MM of tread

Having moved down to the south coast, I won't need the winter tyres so am using them till I need to replace them. (But seems they enjoy summer as much as winter.....wear rate doesn't seem much higher than the summers. Car does drift a bit more round corners though on hot days.)

Once the winters are shagged my thought was to put Verdes on the front and the summers on the rear during summer and Verdes on all 4 during winter. Eventually when the summers are shagged I will have Verdes all year round on all 4.

My thought for the summer, is it better to have summers on the front and Verdes on the rear, or the other way around ?

Personally wouldn't want to mix the 2 up as it may upset the handling as you have different grip characteristics on each axle.

I do tend to agree that the winters tend to be ok all year round, and there are some good all season tyres about now such as the Pirelli scorp verde.

I would be tempted to sell the 2 summers you have, and fit the car out with a full set of matching tyres, what size are you running? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

So to be thorough, I should be changing the tyre spare too !

I guess that tyre is at least 4 years old....age of the car plus. Not sure whether tyres have a limited shelf life and how easy it will be to sell this unused tyre.

I'd be less worried about the spare - nice to have that matching too, but far less important.

They last a good while in the boot - the tyre is not under any load, or exposed to any UV light, it's dry and no extremes of temperature etc so close to ideal storage conditions.

Never mix winter & summer.
Tyres generally have a shelf life of 6yrs, although have known tyres of 10yrs still on a car from new at 106000 miles on the clock still with 3+mm left but not recommended.

Was going to mix verde and summer....

Same principle applies though - as with all mixed tyres - they behave differently in at various temperatures and in different conditions, so sometimes you have more grip at the front, other times more grip at the rear - almost never neutral as the car was designed for.

In a FFRR it's probably not critical - but I'd always rather have the best setup I can because you never know when you will suddenly find yourself at the limits of grip.....
