Pre Heater / Timed Climate problems

Hi all

This is my first post after becoming a member today -learned loads already - like how to upgrade my analougue tv tuner for a digital one!! WIll be contacting WIggs very soon!

I have a FFRR 4.4 Vogue (BMW engine touch screen nav), with this cold weather upon us Im desperate to get my timed climate to work. I told the dealer last winter it wasnt working - but they told me if the battery wasnt just up to it, it would shut off and I had to have at least a quarter of a tank of fuel in!

Any way a new battery later and well over a quarter of tank of fuel (which kills me because I run on gas) still no timed climate. It whirrs for say 2 minutes then just shuts down.

Has anybody got any experience of trouble with these before i make the dreaed trip to the main dealer??

Thumbs Up RR Vogue 4.4V8

Search google for "Webasto Lock Out" it's worth checking to see if this is happening to you.

There is some Webasto software that can query the unit to pull its fault codes. Info here: http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=12192

There isn't much info on the FBH as fitted to the petrol RR, but I and one other on here have it fitted to a 4.4. All Diesels have it fitted as standard (although not accessible from the screen on most).

Any info you do find out, please post back as we're all scratching our heads at the mo.

If you have Aux heating then you have it. If you have Aux Ventilation then you dont.

Just had same problem with my Webasto heater on a TD6 - interior blower running for 2 mins and FBH making noise but not igniting and then locking out. Had it tested on Autologic and deffo the heater unit and not the solenoid pump which lives on top of tank under back seat. New full unit approx 1060 +vat from stealer, no separate parts available. Had the unit removed and took it to a Webasto service agent. It wouldn't run on his test rig or diagnostics as it was to test generic Thermotop Webastos which have a control ECU which works off a 12V trigger, the Webasto on the RR has a RR specific ECU which communicates with the canbus via baud rates.
Anyway he tested all mech components and they were fine so it was a process of elimination that the ECU was duff. By the way all mech parts for Webastos are potty money unless get lucky on Ebay. Webasto wouldn't/couldn't supply a RR specific ECU saying I had to purchase full new heater. Ended up buying a second hand one from CWS for £100 delivered, not bad considering a generic non RR ECU was about £250 from Webasto. Anyway fitted secondhand one and it's grafting now. Your problem is prob either ECU or glowpin - both expensive and RR ECU not available - easisest option is to try and source a secondhand one for right money.

Mellor AutoElectrics, Ossett - young guy called Stuart. Nice lad, v helpful but unfortunately couldn't test the ECU.

I'd be tempted to try the secondhand route - car not usable when heater removed unless you can do a 100% reliable temporary joint on coolant hoses and even if fixable Webasto spares very expensive.

Maybe try CWS 4x4 or Equicar for a secondhand one.

Had mine fitted at indies - A1 Landrover in Bury.

Thank you, my indie's getting some new diagnostic softare next week which has the pre heater bits on it next week. Hopefully we will be able to tell from this weather its the ecu, solenoid or unit.

Was initially going to take my FBH to Leyland Autos at Preston who are an authorised Webasto Service Agent - look on Webasto site - as a guy who drinks in our local is a Webasto rep but he wasn't sure if Leyland repaired RR ones. Unfortunately when I ended up having FBH removed to attempt to repair it, the Webasto service guy at Leyland Autos was on hols so I went elsewhere. Saw the rep in the pub last night - he's since spoken to the service guy at Leyland Autos and apparently he's familiar with RR FBHs and apparently can test and repair if removed from vehicle. Looks like he might be your man.
