Just returned from holiday on a 200 mile run on the motorway. Car was behaving perfectly until luckily (!) about 1 mile from home I had the above warning. I could not then go higher than 3rd gear.

Have managed to get it on my drive which is good.

Does anybody have suggestions as to what this is/could be.

Can you please let us know which model by filing in the little car details in your profile. The gearboxes are different for the different models. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Well I left the car "cool down" for about 5 hours and just started and driven it and it is absolutely perfect.

I am now very confused as I thought the gearbox might be the problem but am not sure now.

Hopefully it was just a momentary huff - I'vr had issues in the past that have cleared with a simple restart.

How old is the battery ?

Intermittent faults are a nightmare - unless you can recreate, it's a world of pain, but who knows - it may never re-appear.....
