Vibration felt through steering wheel at motorway speeds

Another intermittent problem, I'm afraid, and any suggesoions welcome. The day after having new discs and pads fitted and wheels balanced all round, on a motorway trip I had quite bad vibration through the steering wheel. Having checked that it wasn't a loose wheel nut I found a tyre place after 15 minutes and they re-balance the front wheels, only 5 gram out. Problem immediately solved.

Now, 3 months later the same thing happened twice on the trip to Le Mans Classic, and both times the problem went away after 10-15 minutes. iI ahve taken it back to the original place where the brakes were done, and all balancing was correct.

If it was wheel balance, bearings, badly fitted pads or discs, I would expect the problem to be constant. The problem was not related to road suface changes.

Any suggestions?

generally if faulty brakes then you get vibration when braking, wheel balancing problems manifest at around 50 and 80 mph..
anything else would be bushes, lower/upper suspension arms etc... ... - .- -.

Thanks, Stan, but why only now and then, my car is only ever used for motorway journeys, so it is doing 70-80 almost its entire life. Current car: 2012 FFRR Autobiography TDV8.

Scotland 2006 Range Rover HSE Td6 Bonatti Grey

It might be a sticky caliper. I had strange vibaration at speed last year (not via steering wheel though) turned out to be a sticking rear caliper. If it happens again stop and feel of the wheels (not discs lol) and see if ones a bit hotter than the other.

I would agree with the occasionally sticking calliper, that would happen more with new pads as the pads are a lot thicker than the old ones. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

England 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Santorini Black

I had the same last week, slight vibration through the wheel, before having calipers off etc etc, took it to be balanced and found front wheels out.

Had balanced and will give that a go - cheap and I have resolved a known problem as they were out by 65gm

sticky caliper I would of though would of generated heat and burning smell 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE
