I am taking delivery of a 2003 L322, pikchas to follow once i have.
when i took it for a test drive, i noticed a wheel or more was out of balance.
Seems to me that dealers dont care about that, each car on the lot is just another lump of coal to them.
So here is what i need to know, as the first thing i will be doing is taking it for wheel balancing, is when i take it on the ramp, i presume that i must raise the suspension to the highest level, then switch off, before the wheels are removed.
I am only asking as i have not had a chance to read the manual as of yet and i dont want airbags to be self destructing.

Nope, leave it at standard height, leave a door open, not the boot, and the suspension won't try to level... should be fine when it comes off... I've done mine hundreds of times, once it sat all funny afterwards but it sorted itself within a few yards of moving... You don't have to leave a door open really, it realises something has happened when the wheels leave the floor so never had mine try to level when I have left all the doors shut....

Some have had problems but I think that is because if a height sensor is wearing out then jacking up the car is enough to finish it off....

There is an old wives tail that you should open the boot and put the hazards on but I can't see why AFAIK this does nothing apart from giving the customer something to look at while they airgun your nuts back on so tight you will never get them off again...!!!

Don't forget to throw the locking wheel nuts in the bin and fit some normal ones....  Pete

At that age of L322, I would go further and replace every wheel nut with a new one. ______________________________

This was in the P38A Owners Handbook

The boot was to lock the suspension, the hazards I think just to warn people a 3 ton thing was in the air


For the OP, never had any issues jacking either on the jacking points or on the suspension parts, door closed. Car sometimes gives a little sigh and level afterwards, though  .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

If you are buying wheels from later model years, you will need to buy the newer style wheel nuts that are silver rather than black.

There are many threads on here about this. Best thing is to show us a pic of the wheels you intend to buy and we can tell you if you'll need new nuts.

The newer style has a stainless steel cap and the nut underneath rusts, causing swelling and then the 22mm socket won't fit on any more.

Each time I replace a set of wheels I have put brand new nuts all round. Not much money £1.50 each and saves lots of hassle. Discovery 4 HSE

Ok, i understand what you mean by swelling. I must check if that is happening on the D1, as all the nuts have that loose cap.

On my D3 the wheel nuts had swollen so I just used a 23mm socket carefully to get them off and then when the new wheels went on I put brand new all round and put the old ones in the bin. Discovery 4 HSE
