Genuine Range Rover Bike Rack

I've just purchased a genuine Land Rover bike rack, but looking at it I am a little concerned it might not be legal to use without a light board and number plate (which totally defeats its purpose!)

I'm sure many people on here have used these without issue, please can you reassure me?

Thanks,
Graeme

All your rear lights must be visible, when the rack is fitted with bikes stand back and have a look... ... - .- -.

I have a rack like that and have always used a light board. I don't think you'd be legal otherwise - the number is not really visible through the bicycle(s), even if the lights might be. Mine was quite cheap (about £20 I think, not the LR Accessory one at £75 Shocked ) and plugs into the towbar electrics. It is held on by cable ties and string, not very high tech but works well enough. Only Range Rovers since 1988

As fitted in your pictures, it would be illegal as the VRM cannot be read by any scamera you speed past...

I used to put a number plate on mine but not a light board

The way my bikes sat, the lights were always clearly visible, but clearly the registration plate is partially obscured even with the rack empty

This is the only pic I have - and the ski bikes are completely clear of the lights, but even real bikes were OK

I had a registration plate with some Velcro tape stuck to the back of it - then some foam stuck over that.

I just looped the tape around the bike frame & had it sitting on top of the support bars.

However, the rear VRM must be capable of being illuminated at any time - so a simple spare rear plate won't do the job.

although Plod would need to be having a very bad day to do you for it...
