To start, I am Scottish and now, after 30 years in England, live back in Scotland but am absolutely sick of listening to the Scottish to the point I will definitely be moving either back to Englandshire or more likely mainland Europe. My question is this: can anyone give me a reason to stay in a small, broke. bigotted country, I love this place but......... please help

Mick , cricket pitches on the village green, families in the local pub you can walk to, tolerance of ethnic minorities, much better weather, can laugh at their sporting ups, and nice people, to name a few, to be fair I lived in the Home Counties so may not be representative of the whole country. We (Scotland) just seem to be an annoying bunch with no reason at the moment, Freedom My Arse

Granted Scotland is f.ucke.d but nearly everywhere else is going the same way ... There are places further up north that are like what you describe not just down in the home counties ....

A lot of locals in Spain in the Costa del Sol are turning against UK folk who have properties there , have seen it at first hand ...
Guess its just a case of wherever you end up you need to check the place out very carefully ...

As to ethnic minorities i can easily put up with Catholics and Protestants 😄😄😄😜😜 ====================================

Well, in terms of countries who welcome us Brits I can only say good things about France. Aside from Paris (which I dislike in the same way I dislike London) the rest of the country is extremely welcoming.

I was in Thiepval last Friday for the Centenary ceremony for The Battle of the Somme and it was perfect. The French were the best hosts and couldn't do enough for us. Even during the singing of the National Anthems the French were singing the British NA.

We take the caravan to Brittany as often as we can. Not one bad thing to say about the place or the people. And much more agreeable weather than Blighty too. Cheese and wine Sir? Oh yes.

EDIT. Oh, the reason we don't caravan in Scotland? 1. The Scots hate us, and 2. I hate rain.

mzplcg, you echo my views, why do we put ourselves through this, as my kids say ' its a conundrum ' obviously the ones that can speak, if the rest said that I would be straight onto Oxford

Lived and worked in Edinburgh for over twenty years and travelled throughout most of Scotland in that time.
Some really nice, educated people but regrettably a significant majority who were racially challenged ( anti English ), bigoted, and religiously polarised in the extreme. There was also a significant number who were quite simply thick.
When asked by various people over the years why I chose to live and work there I used to tell them I looked upon it as missionary work.
Can't say I regretted leaving when I retired but just remember, there are ar les everywhere.
