:-( broken my instrument cluster

So I followed the guides on here on how to fix the lcd panel on on the cluster I started about 6pm and finished at midnight. I followed the guide pretty much step for step however I stupidly put the unit face down on the dial while working on the back , now I have a panel working like new and in a stroke of horrible bad luck I've wasted 6 hours and made the problem 10 times worse as the steppers don't return now - what's the best way to fix or best person to fix in the uk Sad can you drive without the cluster temporarily?[/i]

I wouldn't drive it without the cluster as the unit stores the odometer reading which gets cross checked against other units in the car. If they differ then the car starts throwing errors in that regard as well.

Can't help you with the cluster though I'm afraid. Do the needles move at all ? V8 or else ...

I recently broke one dial, (temp gauge), whilst trying to repair my cluster (and not following the guides Embarassed ). So I used this company:

http://www.cartronix.co.uk/

repaired the same day as received and back to me the next day. Give them a call, I found them very helpful and not overly expensive! Current: 2004 Vogue 4.4 V8 - 2004 Discovery 2

Have a search on here or the web, there is a way, to cycle all the dials through a test. That saying, all the needles, will 'Rev up' through a cycle, and return. This might reset the troublesome needle(s).
I seem to remember having to do this, because when I did mine a few years ago, the fuel gauge was put back on wrong. I seem to remember removing that needle, and not being able to work out where it should have been placed, and the needle didn't work, but doing the test, it showed tat they did all move, and where it should sit. It's only a few presses of the buttons on the cluster.
Like here...

South Africa

Hi all, i am looking at a RR Vogue, here is south africa. has the TD 6 engine. on the clock is has 222000kms.
A lot of the small led displays are not working, so a portion of the number can be read.
i Hear that this can be repaired.
is this so?

yes it repairable here (UK) via mail order, for about £100. ie your original unit is returned fixed. the DIY method, is very tricky to do correct, first time.
Also, being it is possibly, the early 2002-2005 model in question, you can swap out the whole head unit, for a much more modern android all in one touchscreen/dvd/cd/radio/GPS/bluetooth/phone etc, with added extras like DAB and TV. these units are about £350, and there is a long write up, search 'android head unit' or similar on here.
it is DIY ready...if you are useful with cars/tools. and soldering.

i should add that, simply obtaining a secondhand unit, with better pixels, is not straightforward, and the mileage wont be accurate, and could be reading way over the actual cars' mileage. and is irreversable. (i believe)
so repair of original is the best option

example here. in no way a recommendation. http://www.clusterrepairsuk.co.uk/featured...xel-repair

its quite reasonable - i think its £80 as a mod on its own or £50 with a pixel fix or servo change - seemed rude not to!

That's a good price, I paid £99 for pixel repair + £45 for temp gauge repair and I thought that was good! Current: 2004 Vogue 4.4 V8 - 2004 Discovery 2
