Genuine post car blues?

Does anyone else get the blues (like properly) when they let a car they love go? Question

Due to a change in circumstances, I've had to let my SL500 AMG go yesterday and come back to a FFRR. The SL was always a stretch, bought it new from Merc in Sept 2014 mainly based on a silly discount and excellent finance deal (huge balloon and 0% APR). It was always an indulgence but man I loved that thing.

Had it remapped at DMS Automotive and it was pushing out around 560BHP and 608lbs/ft torque. It also had a genuine AMG rear diffuser and exhaust - sounded epic and went like stink.

Of course it's bittersweet - I mean, I'm back in a 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE, so not exactly slumming it, but watching my SL drive away I properly got "the pangs".

Got me thinking. I had the same feelings when I sold my 2007 FFRR 4.2 SC, my Jag XKR and my 911 too - this genuine sadness. The good news is that it passes pretty quickly - I know they're just metal, leather and oily bits at the end of the day.

But am I the only nutter that gets emotional about saying goodbye? Shocked Confused Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green

I would be heartbroken if I had to sell my 5.0 SC metal/leather and oily bits thing and in the current labour market it is not impossible that it may have to happen. It is supposed to be wrong to want to not get rid of possessions and all that but I don't mind being wrong on some issues Smile.

Sorry to hear mate and I hope that at some time in the future you can have another very nice car like that !! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Here again I suspect will be in the minority as I really don't form any attachment to my cars Sad
It's probably as a result of a life spent in motorsport where we often spend days and nights building wonderful cars only to have then reduced to a kit of component parts in a matter of moment...either by the driver or the team Big Cry
I just look on a car as a set of components. If they are all working well together then I'm happy.
If the there is a another set of parts which do a a better job for the use I can put them....well I'm happier. Wink
I will admit some cars can be better that the sum of their components, but post car blues? No there will always be something better Cool

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE Supercharged Java Black

I went to look at a Morris Marina Coupe that was for sale with a mate many moons ago. The guy wanted £50 for it, including road tax, which was superfluous at the time.

My mate asked how much he wanted for it without the road tax, the guy said £20, to which my mate said:
'It ain't worth 20 quid mate, we'll give you a tenner for it!'

The guy said ok, so we scrabbled around in our pockets and came up with £10 between us & drove away in our new pride & joy, which my mate used to drive the daily 10 mile trip to work for over two years until it finally gave up the ghost.

Love that story xjsracer!

I'm jealous Mactech - that's a far more sensible and logical way of looking at things - I don't choose to be a fruit loop.

And of course you're absolutely right. It's totally ridiculous to feel sad about a lump of metal - but for me it just happens. I guess it's because I get such pleasure from them (as I'm sure you do). It's probably not the car I miss, I guess I just get misty eyed thinking of the fun I've had in it.

My missus has named my new addition as Ranulph. Secretly I'm quite chuffed with her choice, think it fits rather well. Thumbs Up Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

Understand where you coming from, my classic and vintage cars are really loved, specially when found and bought.but after a few days they are just one of the cars in the garage. Proud to drive them, great to have them, good to see they go to a good and proud new owner, nice to see that the investment worked.
Daily drivers, like the Range, only hurt me when sold and have'nt found something very nice before they go. Mr. Green
But your star looks very very nice, feel sorry for you and hope you'll be better of in no time! Thumbs Up
