If you can I would go for the 2010MY with better 4.4TDV8 and 8 speed auto. Also depends on what spec you want.....Vogue, Vogue SE or Autobiography.

Cheers Rob, I'd love one but the few within budget are up on miles, several with 115 -120k, assuming good history do you reckon they might be a good buy? Spec isn't such a worry but I do lust after those air conditioned seats. |

I'm going to stir up a hornets nest here but a 4.4 TD8 driven hard for 120,000 miles would in all probability be in better health than a 3.6 having done half the miles and driven gently . These are large capacity diesel engines , they like hard work and long journeys . Short trips , stop start and pootling around isn't what they are made for or like plus you would get the superb 8 speed gearbox. All with the proviso of a full service record and general good condition . 2008 MY Supercharged

That's what I was thinking Axle, but I guess impossible to know unless I buy privately and get to know the owner. Short trips with no warm up/cool down cycle for the turbos, plus, bushes and seals on a parked up 2008 will have started to perish. That said, I know the feeling of looking at a galactic odometer and it was always worry; what is on the point of failure? |

You could turn that argument on it's head though mate. Try "if it was going to break then surely it would have by now ".

My normal suggestion would be, get a petrol FFRR but if that is not an option for you I'd consider the following.

A 5.0SC would be a dream but the economy; hard to live with.

With regards to 4.4 vs 3.6 I think that it's a bit too early to tell.

There's at least 5 on the trader at the moment between 17-19k, some Vogue and some VSE, mileage from 105 - 165k so I would think you have every chance of getting the one you want in your budget.

Thanks guys, just put a deposit on a 2011 Vogue SE with 130k which looks very clean, won't get a chance to look at it until Friday though. I went to see a couple in Cardiff last weekend and they were fairly ropey. Do all of the 2011 4.4's have the Range Rover brakes? Are they that bad? A friend says they may not be the best but at least they're not £300 a corner like the Brembos. He also recommends the Nanocom evolution over the Gap IID tool, any thoughts on that? |

£300 a corner? They're having a laugh, just had Dan quote me £233 for pads and discs for the front of mine so more like £100 a corner, the rears are cheaper. But I will be doing them myself.

He must have been talking about the calipers. That's not bad at all, I'll be doing them myself too. |
