Battery location?

Anyone know where the battery is on a 405?

I've read somewhere that there are two??

The main one is under the spare wheel

The accessory one is behind the drivers side panel in the boot - photo here Thumbs Up

Thanks Alistair. Which one should you plug the ctek onto I wonder? Would it matter?

I think that the one under the spare is the main starting battery and the one in the side panel is an accessory battery.

I assume that when the ignition is off, they are disconnected from each other.

Therefore I would charge the one that is under the spare.

What I did was connect a CTEK adapter to the jump posts in the engine compartment - they both unbolt, so it was easy to fit Thumbs Up

I have an Anderson connector and CTEK charger both connected - the lead on the CTEK is long enough that it sits just behind the headlight (bottom of the picture)

Whilst cleaning the car at the weekend I decided to have a look for the batteries. I found the one behind the panel on the right hand side of the boot area. I took the spare out to give it a a clean and it is not under the wheel? The compressor is there and there is no room for a battery?

Anyone know?

Thanks Stan.

It must be a huge battery then, but I couldn't see it? There is not (doesn't look) enough room to get the compressor and the battery in ?

I will have another look!

Here you go - and yes I know my wheel well could do with a vacuum, but I did empty it & remove the spare wheel just to take the photos....

Ignore the additional cable with the anderson connector on (bottom left) - I added that - I have then on all my cars

I don't think there's a cover - but it is possible that there should be a piece of carpet that should sit on top - in which case, I guess it would be difficult to spot..... Embarassed

The negative terminal is a bit more obvious - even got a handy label on mine -

The positive is a little more discrete -

Thanks Alistair, there is carpet covering all that on mine. When I get round to it I will have a closer look now I know its there somewhere!

Why do you have Anderson connectors on all your cars? Are you an ex AA man? Smile

Thumbs Up

I did get the idea from an AA man.... but a few factors - I seemed to get asked for a jump start a lot in my old Jeep, my old L322 would refuse to start whenever it was too cold and I hadn't used it for a while, there were times I needed longer leads, or atleast it was useful to have longer leads - so it was easier just to fit connectors - and once they were on one car, it just seemed to make sense.....

All my cars have connectors fitted.
I have a spare battery with a connector that lives in my garage
I have jump leads in each car with a connector on one end
I can connect the cables together for a much longer cable if I need to
The connection is as close to perfect as you can get - the crocodile clips are not a good connection
It's a much safer, cleaner connection, no sparking or spiky voltages

I've jumped plenty of cars from a FFRR without any issues - despite advice to the contrary - I'm convinced it's down to the quality of the connection.

Having said that, I've also now got a Floureon pack which I would generally use in preference to a direct jump start Thumbs Up

Reviving this old post as I'm planning to replace my all leather steering wheel currently fitted with a new piano black / leather wheel at the weekend. As I'll need to disconnect & remove the steering wheel airbag, assuming I'll need to disconnect BOTH batteries to avoid SRS errors?
