How does depression manifest itself?

Not sure really but genuinely wondering if I might have an issue. The RR hasn't turned a wheel for over 4 weeks now, in fact the last time was to take it in for a service and it's remained parked up ever since.

When I was in the dealer they were trying to interest me in a L405 S/C. I ended up saying (rather rudely to my own shame) that if they thought was I was going to give them my car and another 53 clap for "That thing" they were F...ing deluded. That's so not like me. Yes I do swear a bit sometimes but I really don't like rudeness.

Pressure at work? Loads of it. 200 miles commute involving a lot of the A14 doesn't help either but by the time I get out of the Skoda (which is a very civilised drive I might add, if a little bland) I can't be bothered with anything really, not even SWMBO's Aston. Can't even be bothered to eat dinner most nights, just collapse in the chair.

Struggling a bit if I'm honest as it's just not me. I have always been enthusiastic about life in general, especially my toys but it's not there at the mo. Depression? Dunno, probably more like exhausted a lot of the time but deffo not myself and got no love for the Fattie right now. Bizarre.

a 200 mile commute is gonna rip the joy out of anyones life.
is that something that you can influence?

Would be getting to the doctors and get a professional opinion. It can manifest itself in lots of different ways and it's very easy to become a functioning depressed person.

Possibly, I am trying. If it doesn't work out I'll quit and go some place else I think. The commute is fine if there were a point but it does feel as if they hired me to make up some numbers rather than perform a useful function. No job satisfaction - possibly a part of it.

Yes, I'm there in a couple of weeks for my sugar checks. I'll ask then.

my thoughts,

sell the skoda, with the sale money and the savings on insurance and tax, put all that towards the cost in fuel for the FF..
use the FF to commute, ok it will cost more to run but you only live once.. look at me, the tightest git around but i went out and got a 2012 westie..
i went through a rough patch years ago and it was a very tough time for me and the wife so Dom break the monotony and start living .. ... - .- -.

There is more to life than work. When you live to work you have got something wrong. Work to live. Change things. Break routines. Go see a friendly doctor and good luck. Thumbs Up 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

Sounds as if something needs to change, and fast... work to live, etc. - in the last couple of years I've scaled down my work commitments, so I can focus on things that matter more to me, and feel much better for it.
Not eating regularly will flag up some ' fault codes ' when you see the doc., and don't let him put you on a valium cruise - I believe that's treating the symptoms, not the cause. Own the space Thumbs Up The best 4.4 x far

Couldn't be doing a 200 mile round trip for an unrewarding day of number making up. Could barely cope with a 1 1/4 commute when I had a proper job. Takes me 4 mins now and I don't have a boss anymore!

Take a sabbatical and reassess? Plan something to look forwards to? Embark on a new project? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Right. Booked a holiday. Only a week in Kefalonia but it's something to look forward to. Also told SWMBO to find a super holiday for 2017, 3 weeks at least. That should give me the inspiration to get my ar5e in gear.

Also booked a meeting with the boss man where I'm going to bring it all out. Either I get a decent piece of work to do or I'm off. Simples.

Just applied for another contract. Interview tomorrow. Similar commute but a helluva project. Worth driving for by the sound of it. Actually, it's in Swindon so I could always rent the spare room at Stan's place Laughing

Just ordered a skip so the weekend will be clearing the garden and ruthlessly binning all the junk I haven't used for years. That should keep me busy all day saturday and then Sunday will be surveying the results of my labours. Over a beer of course.

I think you chaps have helped me get to figuring that if I want to change some stuff in my life then, well, I have to change some stuff in my life. Since we haven't seen Jesus in over 2000 years I doubt he's gonna change it for me.

Thumbs Up

I went to the docs recently regards this very subject, didn't pass the test, although he put me in touch with their in house "listening service" she was of the opinion we all need a proper hobby I.e alone time to just be with ourself instead of always thinking about everyone else. I've booked golf lessons. So until that depresses the crap out of me a wee walk sounds ace. I often dump all the crap that build up in the garage "just in case it comes in handy". Until you bin something that you need a week later Thumbs Up it's like mumsnet In Here this week!

Good luck. !
Soul destroying doing something you don't like.
Well done on making changes, especially looking forward to something nice.
my wife always says, 75% of your life is mapped out, the other 25% you control with your own decisions.
