Listening to someone innocent (as he admitted) of technical knolwedge and is reliant on machanics and professionals to not rip then off is a bit heart in mouth.

Just one thing you mentioned
"first up the air compressor for the front n/s suspension needs replacing and he can do that job"
The compresser is in the boot and fills all four suspension bags
The front nearside is just the bag (around a shock absorber) if this fails then a new unit ...shock and bag can be brought for between £160-£210 and takea about 30 mins to fit if all goes well

My drivers side bag developed a hole yesterday and i ordered one and its now waiting for me to fit it tomorrow
I just jacked the car up,take the wheel off soapy water on the bag and gave it a squeeze. No air in there but enough movement to show a few bubbles.
Easy to check and free (unless it needs replacing)
