I was stood talking to a customer the other day when his tracking company called him to tell him his "other car" was on the move without a card! He was advised the car was currently travelling at 118mph on the M5 near Bristol

I chose LRs TrackStar because head office refused to guarantee that my warranty would not be affected if I fitted a non-approved device. Seems to work well and plots the route travelled every twenty seconds and the only downside is that the separate tag is a little bulky to fit in a wallet. |

I had to have an approved tracker fitted as a condition of my insurance and the LR dealer told me Trackstar was the only one that would not potentially invalidate the warranty.

My car came with a Trackstar fitted (it wasn't mentioned by the dealer but I found a little card in the handbook).

Only Cat 5 trackers have the card that you need to take with you. Some insurance companies require this level. Trackstar do Cat 5 and 6 with 5 being the highest level of security. |

Or go with Aviva. They didn't require any form of tracking device and there was no discount if I fitted one either , not much of an incentive to help them protect your car from theft though. Surprisingly though ,they were also my cheapest quote. The guy on the phone said they only needed tracking devices on more prestigious cars like Porsche 911s !!! Obviously he hadn't seen the Tracker top 10 list Steve

I had a Cobra unit fitted to my previous car and always wondered if it really worked - I regularly ferry back and forth between UK and France/Spain and gave up phoning the control centre to tell them. Sometimes they would call me but more often than not - they didn't.

It's called Lamborghini VTS and operated by Cobra (now Vodafone). It was Lambo standard fit for the UK market. |
