United Kingdom 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Bonatti Grey

Evening and thanks in advance...

I recently bought a 2004 4.4 RR and today the engine went into trans fail prog mode, the engine stopped (cut out) this morning but restarted again immediately but when I tried to restart the car this evening the battery appears to be totally flat.

I had to jump start it to get it going again and the following warnings appeared on the dash - hdc inactive / air suspension inactive / abs warning light / battery light and for some reason the handbrake warning light too..

I'm not mechanically minded at all, so was wondering if anyone can help in simple terms what may be wrong and what I need to get checked out / repaired please.

Prior to this morning the RR has performed absolutely fine, so I'm at a loss as to whats happened

many thanks

Jon

Probably related to the battery. mine did this when the battery was old. With luck a decent battery should fix the problem unless there is an underlying problem causing your battery to be low (as opposed to just an old battery and not enough use to keep fully charged).

I am no expert and the above is based on my experience only. Sure some one with more technical advice will be along soon. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

As above, check the battery voltage level. For a fully charged battery in good health it should be reading around 12.6V. With the engine running and alternator working correctly it should read over 13.5V. Anything less could be a problem.

If the battery was so low that it needed a jump start then it definitely needs charging. Low voltage will cause numerous faults to pop up, the first to warn of low voltage is HDC inactive. I use that on mine as an indicator it needs charging.

The fact the battery light is on could point to possible alternator issue (faulty alternator or belt problem) or might just be related to the battery.
So charge the battery up fully, do a voltage test and go from there.

Once started turning the steering wheel from lock to lock clears the warning lights.

Many thanks for your replies, new battery on order now and the old one on charge overnight.

will certainly try the lock to lock steering wheel turning and hopefully that will clear the warning signs when fully charged up again!

any other help, feel free to mention.

many thanks for the link and help.. battery is retaining no charge at all so I've come to the conclusion the alternator needs replacing too.

Can anyone recommend a good supplier at a reasonable cost please.

regards
