My guess is that 95% of those suffering with this problem will never replace the Nokia unit. Really no need to. I was very careful not to excessively bend the two optic cables. They are fairly thick and probably pretty tough, but why take the chance of breaking them?

To my knowledge, my Nokia unit has never been exposed to any sort of moisture. I believe that they are just poorly engineered and have cost Land Rover customers thousands of dollars and untold anguish trying to track down what's causing their touch screen functions to lock and fail. It's also no doubt cost Land Rover thousands in wasted time trying to figure it out. I know from this Forum and other LR forums I've researched, not even the dealerships have a clue as to what the cause is, nor how to fix it. Now we know...now we have a 5 min. "do it yourself" fix that anyone can do themselves. Maybe someone at Land Rover will read this and pass it on to the dealerships as a service bulletin.

PS: After I made the photos, I decided the loop was too big, so I went back and cut the Bic pen plastic down to about 1- 3/4 inches. It worked just the same but made the loop more manageable (not so large)

Hi
Tried this bypass today after my touchscreen went dead and it worked a treat all back to normal except for phone/Bluetooth,
Is it just a case of me buying a new phone/Bluetooth module to reinstate the Bluetooth?

My touch screen has froze with just the range rover logo so I have no radio, satnav dvd or cd. The photos show the rear compartment and fibre optics, and one optic plug that was attached to the 2 fiber optic cable that I have joined in a loop ( the plug was not linked into anything before removal from cables and loop fix tried). There is no bluetooth modulebut I believe there may have been but has been removed as there is a phone dock in the centre consoul. Hope this makes some kind sence

If it was working and now doesn't then it's not the lack of a bluetooth unit as it wasn't there anyway..

Must be failure of one of the units in the system somewhere... I'm afraid I don't know enough about the later units to help, I suggest you start your own thread on your problem, you will get more help that way than dragging up a very old thread... Thumbs Up Pete

Thanks for this.... just had to do mine as bluetooth unit failed in the last week. Without this wiki/thread/forum, I would not have had a clue what the problem was or how to sort it.

Just a heads up, the wiki link for this article does't link back to this thread btw. It links to a headlight removal thread.

One thing to take note of, you really need to unplug the unit too, if you don't it doesn't go to sleep and draws a lot of power, around 1.2 amps, and will kill your battery pretty quickly.

Also, the TMC module is on the same fuse (number 27 from memory) and I found that this was also not allowing the car to sleep properly.

I went from 1.2amps when the car slept with the faulty bluetooth and tmc still plugged in, to 0.6amps with the bluetooth unit then unplugged (power and can connector not just most ring) and with just the TMC module connected down to 0.02 amps. and that was with the fuse out, that probably didn't matter but thought may as well as nothing on that ring any more.
So from around 4 days before a flat battery (and approx 24 hours for transmission and suspension errors etc. on start up) to what should be in theory more like 6 months (in theory). Porsche 911 (996)
