Hi all, I have a bit of a dilemma, I am not sure weather to go for a 3.6 2009 AB or a 4.4 2010 Vogue. My budget is up to £25k so both are in this range.
I do like my toys which is why I am thinking of the AB. But will I regret not going for the 4.4 over the 3.6?


Any advice please?

I'd take the 4.4 TBH, well actually I wouldn't. I'd have the 5.0 'Charger, in fact, I did.

But I used to have the 3.6 and I drove the 4.4 before buying the Charger. The extra power and 8 speed box is worth losing a few toys for. Bear in mind that a lot of the toys can be retrofitted if you have an IID tool to enable it all. But look at the list and decide what you really can't live without...Oh and remember the 09 3.6 model had wooden brakes. The 4.4 has the 6 pot Brembos.

Oxford leather - the perforated stuff. Meh, no biggie.
Cooled seats as well as heated. Nice in the 2 days of summer we get.
Adaptive headlamps. Cos you look round corners all the time.
Slightly posher alloys. EBAY.
Leather headlining. Well worth having but can be retrofitted easily.

A lot of what I have on mine were options on the AB as well, even the RSE. See what the 09 has. It would have to be one special car to trump a 4.4 Vogue.

I would go with what mzplcg is saying. You'll use all of the toys occasionally but you'll use the engine and 'box all the time you're driving it. Back in a Defender!!

Yes. The 3.6 is a fine vehicle but the 4.4..........one second slower to 60mph than the 5.0SC, only 10mph slower top speed compared to the 5.0 SC (as standard).

Drive the 3.6 and 4.4 back to back if you are unsure. Besides, depending on the car, some owners tick the options list so the actual differences might be minimal i.e. only missing the toys you wouldn't use anyway.

4.4 is way better tun the 3.6 if only for the 8sp gearbox sir

I like my cooled seats, but I tend to use the transmission more than the cooling. Take the 4.4.

5.0 SC anytime. No issues with turbos/EGRs and even with "only" 6 ratios one hell of a smooth driving machine  MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

You don't want people to look in and see a knob do you?..... Gearshift that is...... 4.4 every time. Mine is epic. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I'd go with the 4.4. It really moves the car on to a different level with the 8 speed box.
It is the reason I now have a Range Rover. It's not the power, it is the seamless access to a tidal wave of torque that makes the car so effortless and refined.
I've set myself lists of toys I want in cars before but found I really want the experience of the basic car. I specced cars up when I had a new company car every few months and found I really never used most of the stuff...it's just more to go wrong or have glitches with!
If you want smooth, and torque and MPG...and refinement...go with a 'poverty' spec Vogue 4.4  2012MY Range Rover 4.4 TDV8 Vogue...now gone!

After one week of ownership of a 4.4 tdv8 vse the smoothness and power from the engine is awesome. I test drove a 3.6 back in 2008 and was very disappointed on throttle response.
The 4.4 doesn't hesitate and the 8 speed box is silky smooth. The command shift is fantastic too.
The 4.4 gets a big thumbs up from me. 👍

I have owned two 3.6's and now have the Legendary 4.4 TDV8 unit.

In simple terms once you have had the 4.4 you would never go back - reasons:

1. It will in fact do more MPG - on motorway runs to the airport I get 34 -37 MPG (most of the time its 37MPG)

2. there's so much torque ( if I remember somewhere around 710NM ) - the engine never tries - like my Trent 900's

3. Theirs countless threads on the engine being more bullet proof that the 3.6

4. Have a look at the brakes on the 3.6 & 4.4 unit - same car weight around 3Tonnes - DO YOU REALLY WANT TO STOP when you have too ( I will go with 4.4 Bembo Calipers every day - ****** they grip !

Its the same as Clarkson once said when he was on top gear testing the new Range Rover 12YM - he had a divers watch on and said it does 1000 feet - does he need it - then he said YOU BET !

My main dealer used to say to me they are always working on 3.6 units - hardly see a 4.4 for major repairs

6 speed or the 4.4 8 speed - someones trying to tell you something here !!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with all of the above though, make a list of the options that you care about - and TBH, there probably aren't that many that really matter.

Shortlist the colours, interior and exterior -then find the best car you can that has them.

My last one came with a horrible wood trim - but it cost me £500 to have it all removed, dipped gloss black & re-fitted. As stated, wheels are another easy one. Rear Seat Entertainment is probably better served with iPads. Tower etc can be retro fitted.

I also wouldn't buy one without Brembos, but that may just reflect the fact that I drive too fast & tow fairly regularly

Brakes on my old 3.6 were big Brembos btw.

The brakes were changed to cardboard cutouts on the 2010-> 3.6's. Pre that they were 4 pot Brembos  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
