FUEL FILTER ON TDV8 4.4

I hope this will be helpful to someone on here: ( KNOWLEDGE IS KING as is this Forum )

HOW TO CHANGE FUEL FILTER ON TDV8 4.4

I tend to do our RR's every 10,000 miles - time takes me 6 Minutes !

1. Ensure you have Genuine LR Fuel Filter: Part Number: LR072610

2. See location of Fuel Filter picture below:
NOTE: You will see part number stamped on BH42-9C296-AB - this has been superseded by BH42-9C296-AC

3. Gentle PULL OFF the lower water sensor plug which is located at the bottom of OLD Fuel Filter. ( Tight fit with your hand - PULL OFF )

4. Ensure you move this plug out of harms way - this will be needed again once the NEW fuel filter is back in place.

5. UNSCREW the locking cap Anti-Clockwise by hand ( you may need a large pair of grippers ) will be tight to loosen.

6. Unscrew and gentle lift out OLD Fuel filter out.

7. The NEW Fuel filter will have supplied a NEW Rubber caskit attached - KEEP SAFE.( see pic )

8. Gentle UNSCREW again Anti Clockwise the Aluminium water drain basin - THIS WILL BE NEEDED ON THE NEW Fuel Filter
You will want to clean this piece as I have done ( Keep things new )

9. Attach the existing LR Water sensor housing with the NEW Rubber washer supplied - Ensure nice tight fit

10. SLIDE THE LARGE BLACK PLASTIC Thread Locking Nut into/through the New Fuel Filter and Position back into Fuel Filter housing

11. ENSURE you get the Pressed insert collar (see the side of the new fuel filter) into the slide position on the Female top ( It is not screwed in just pushed up into position ) - The Large Black Plastic Thread Locking Nut will screw on - Push Fuel canister UP by hand and Screw Locking Collar on and into position.

12. This large Black Plastic Tread Lock - Needs to be securely Tight - do not use plastic gloves - better with your hand ( CLOCKWISE THREAD - Enure it is a Flush Tight Fit - check by eye.

13. When all the above is back in position - CLIP on the LR Water Sensor at the base of the Fuel Filter - It is pushed on only. PUSH HOME to Ensure.

14. To Prime the system all you need to do is:

Turn Ignition on WAIT 30 Seconds - DO NOT START CAR
Switch OFF Ignition and repeat
Turn Ignition on WAIT 30 Seconds - DO NOT START CAR
Switch OFF Ignition and repeat
Turn Ignition on WAIT 30 Seconds - DO NOT START CAR
Switch OFF Ignition and repeat
Turn Ignition on WAIT 30 Seconds - DO NOT START CAR

The System will self bleed any air back to the fuel tank

15. Start the RR and check for any leaks - to which there should be none ( Double Check with Engine running )

I would recommend the Fuel Filter is changed every 20,000 miles - ITS THAT EASY - 6 minutes when you know

nothing really, may be a teaspoon full - just ensure you wear some plastic gloves ( Diesel smells ) - you might find the collar nut a bit tight - you know what workshops are like ( OTT ) - I nipped mine up and have never had a problem.

having said all this - I ve changed them often and have never found any water in the system - I can only think if you go to a doggie garage that does not turn fuel around fast - then they might have water in their tanks.

For anyone who lives near FLOODED PETROL STATIONS can might get flooded - stay clear as this will cause problems I am sure.

Just changed mine by following the instructions.
Collar was a bit tight so found that taking the bracket completely off, and disconnecting the lead made undoing it easier (for me anyway) to gain access to the collar.
Another few quid saved thanks to this forum.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but can anyone tell me if this process is the same on the 3.6TDV8 or if not is there a separate write up on how to do this one?

I have had a search but I am not coming up with anything. Its service time again and they have suggested a replacement fuel filter will be needed but at £100 for this bit it seems like a good job to do myself if its as easy as the thread suggests on mine. Just done mine, THANK YOU Emirates380 as always for your guide.

I wonder if somebody could tell me if I have the filter up high enough? The gap I'm looking to check is above the plastic collar.
I didn't note the gap taking the old one off.

I also would recommend a rubber strap type oil filter tool to avoid damaging the collar with metal grips like I did.

It slips up over the pickup tube, no thread.
Then the locking ring turns to secure it.

Mine doesnâ€™t look quite square.
Itâ€™s up flush at the front but a small gap at the back?
