If I jab the brakes whilst cruising there's a definite clunk felt through the car, if I feather the brakes I get the wobble, if I stand in the brakes hard the wobble is very little and then goes. Discovery 4 HSE

Thatis exactly how mine was, I'd go looking at those bushes if I were you. The clunk was most noticable in mine by simply letting in roll in forward gear and stick the breaks on it. It could be produced during normal driving too by hitting the breaks or indeed hitting the accelerator on start off.

The bit's you ringed in red are not meant to be connected, they allow the bush to move in one direction but it bumps up against them in the other, they're called snubbers. The tears in the shear mounting are the failure, I've ringed them in green.

Rubbervhas a tendency to creep over time which can open or close gaps depending on the load direction. It can also soften and fail through too many cycles. These are all taken into account when 'lifeing' a bush at the design stage. |

After driving mine for a few weeks having replaced the bushes, The steering wobble has been cured but I still did notice a certain roughness when braking gently especially when rolling to a halt with foot gently on the brakes. There even seemed to be a bit of grabbing and releasing going on which could be amplified by left foot on the brake and right foot on the throttle enough to keep the car moving.

Quite likely to be uneven pad material transfer to the disc. All modern pad materials work by transferring a small amount of pad material on to the disc surface, the braking is then done between two layers of friction material. I've seen pads transfer unevenly due to poor bedding in procedures or high speed stops followed by sitting on the brakes for a few seconds. Sometimes this can build up as the 'sticky bit' of the disc transfers more pad material each rotation during light braking, making it stickier and transferring more material etc. A friend used to run a CRX that would reliably do this every 2-300 miles - it got a little tiresome and he sold the car!

Steering wobble under braking most likely a worn track rod end or possibly you have put a slight warp in the new discs Adam.Did they copper grease the callipers after fitting the new pads,any chance the pads aren't retracting from the discs properly or a sticky calliper causing your problem.
