It does it sometimes when car is cold.

Especially during the first miles in the morning in the city coming to a stop or a redlight.

Transmission goes bang when stopping the car if i stop it too fast. If i stop progressively, it does the downshift with ease.

Has been flushed once using a full kit bought at ZF directly (oil pan and oil).

Car is 4.2 supercharged.

Any advice appreciated.

This is a known problem with your era gearbox, same with Jags. If I remember correctly (but feel free to check with RRPhil) it was a software update. So you could check with Gap Diagnostics whether the IID tool can update that software. I know the Faultmate can (since I have one and did do various software upgrades with it, including the gearbox).

As far as I know it is not hardware related like the 3-4 shift issues.

Instead of IID/Faultmate DIY you could go to a dealer and pay them for updating all your ECUs as well of course. No idea what they would charge you but I guess that going the IID route will probably be cheaper  MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Had the transmission fully flushed recently by ZF themselves, they clear the adaptions, but cannot update the actual mapping, that is a LR thing.

I am in discussions with them, there was a service bulletin issued on the topic, will try and attach.

Clearing the adaptations is a risky thing, if the box has covered quite a few miles then there will be a degree of wear so it could actually make the box worse, as a few have found. There is a software update available from Land Rover, and this along with an oil change can help if not totally eliminate it.

If it doesn't then you may have a worn solenoid which will need the mechatronic unit removing. It can be done DIY, but it's not really easy as they will need to be tested to find which is worn. It depends on the box milage. They are generally robust and the software update and oils/filter, would be my first port of call, and changing the oil is good practice in any case though depends on how long since you last swapped it.

If you did a simple oil swap, then you don't swap all the oil in the box as he oil in the tc and cooler remain, so changing just the oil avail will dilute the old oil further!

Have a search there a quite a few threads on the 6hp26, including one by ebajema on his SC. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Yes you can update the gearbox software on the 4.2SC using the IID tool. I did it on mine a few weeks ago, nice an easy.

OOI: is there a version number, so one knows which one is "old" and which is "new"

Am i right in assuming that adaptions update itself on-goingly in any event?
That is, a clearing of old might be a sudden overwrite, but during usage the adaptions " adapt themselves' in any event?

Another point, possibly relevant, the SC has the Magna Steyr xfer, which has an electronically controlled multi clutch torque lockup . There have been reports that that units attachment clip breaks, causing the unit fork to float, which allows torque lock up and would give drive train thump.
So, does the gearbox thump, accidentally activate the lock up, excessabating the thump, into a thump thump

For those interested; I took the FFRR to the agents, explained the story and asked if they would hook it up.
The kind foreman obliged, (No Charge) came back with an upgraded vehicle, the relevant codes are as follows(scan below)

I've only done 60 odd km's, but smooth as silk, so happy
