Anyone know about bike engines?? Help !!

Hi, have acquired a bike with a single cylinder aircooled Kohler petrol engine, was fine for 2 days but now is a pig. It starts and idles no problem, as soon as I put on any throttle it sounds strangled and then will die if returned to idle!! I know zip about bikes and cant seem to find a fuel filter as that was my first thought.

Do any of you helpful chaps/chapesses have any tips

thanks in advance, SWMBO is questioning my man maths on this one Rolling with laughter

Here is the offending thing

Well I'm not familiar with that specific engine but you're right to be looking at fuel. Possibly a carb diaphragm, partially blocked jet, blocked filter etc. Basically it's dying because there is too much air for the fuel being delivered.

Carb diaphragm would be my first item to check. Even a tiny split will cause mixture havoc.

They're well known motors though, found in generators, snow-mobiles and a myriad of other items. Spares ought to be readily available.

Is it new clean fuel?
Filter maybe where the fuel goes into the carb.

If old fuel I'd drain the tank, remove the carb and empty the float chamber, blow through the jet(s).
Refit and fill with a small amount of new fuel.
Remove plug and possibly replace it.

Duff fuel, your trying to run it on water, or there is a blockage in your jets..... take it to a lawn mower service centre.... it's a lawn mower engine and the parts are cheap, you'll more than likely get a new carburettor for less than £30.00 Shocked Do a search for parts for the engine, NOT the bike!

If it turns out to be water in the float bowl, I would recommend that you drain the tank and decant the petrol from the water with the aid of a glass jar..... the water will be yellowy bit at the bottom of the jar Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Don't know the engine number but this is the sort of thing that you should expect http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gasoline-Carbure...GkavFjj_Tg Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
