Rustproofing

Bit of advice please if I may ask...

I recently got a new upper tailgate from LR under their body warranty but it was a brand new one - Given what has been said about the newer ones being more prone to rust the the older ones, I was wondering if anyone has used any wax/oil/whatever to pump into the tailgate to help prevent the rust from starting..?

I've seen online some stuff from REJEL that I could use. It requires a air supply which is fine as I have a compressor at home anyway.

Anyone used this or something similar and anywhere else that I should be looking to clean up and treat as preventative measure.?

Thanks gang Ash

The Dinitrol stuff from Rejel is actually quite good product. I used the aerosol type in my classic to spray into the cill sections and it seemed to work well from what I could see. It does not fill the void like a wax (the void being quite large on the cills) but it does coat well. Thumbs Up 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

The sills rust after a few years, plenty of holes in the sills to get it in as well....

Dinitrol is widely used on the Defender forum, and I did mine with it, much better than Waxoyl. You can buy aerosols or use the cans for use with a compressor which I think is better for large applications. For just the tailgate buy the aerosols.

You want the cavity wax. Discovery 4 HSE

This might vary from country to country, so you would be as well to check with a local franchise dealer. In UK it is 3 years paintwork warranty and 6 years perforation (rusting from inside to outside) for new cars. I'm not sure about replacement parts, it might depend on whether you get the part painted and fitted by a franchise dealer or just get the part and have it painted and fitted elsewhere. Only Range Rovers since 1988

if the tailgate is replaced by the LR dealer under warranty then the guarantee period will be to the 6 years corrosion guarantee ends, or 1 year which ever is sooner.

i had the boot on both my FF done by local deal who farms it out to a swanky bodyshop. I asked them and they said they did a lot and now were using Dinitrol in the cavities of the replacement boot panels as a matter of course. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

bought my used RR from LR dealer and noticed the rust on the bottom edge/lip. They sent it to "their body shop guy" on their dime to get touched up. As expected first signs are coming back 1-2 years later. 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC
