IID Flash

Well, plugged in my IID BT and all I wanted to do is find out why all of a sudden the car has decided not to find my misses phone.

Soon as I plugged it in the IID started to write a flash and now I'm stuck sat in the car in a cold garage preying after 1hr plus the flash brings the car back to life.

Question, what will happen if my Ipad hoes flat and the the flash fails or crashes?

Can I just unplug the IID and turn off the key?

That's good. Thumbs Up

I got worried reading about the hour wait. IID dies tell you to plug the car into an external power source, or keep it running. I wouldn't like the battery to fall below a critical level while flashing the car, nor would I want to engage the ignition either. Rock + hard place...

Did it work?

It did finally boot backup all ok and I found out for some unknown reason the IIDTool was flashed with a special firmware.

Reflashed the IIDTool with the latest firmware and now it reads codes just fine and sorted out the Bluetooth issue as well. Range Rover quotes.....

I'll add that it must of been me ticking the wrong firmware when I last updated the IIDTool. Range Rover quotes.....

Just seen this and thought I would reply.

The iPad is not responsible for any of the actual flashing because a far greater reliability is needed - all the software is stored within the IID itself and it doesn't require the iPad to perform the flashing, so if contact is lost it will continue without issue and attempt to reconnect.

If a flash fails, the IID does have a recovery method built in which it will automatically select in the event of failure - this may require the removal and re-insertion of fuses to allow the IID to start flashing as soon as the ECU responds and thus before the software crashes. For certain flashes, it is possible to remove the key, but most require the ignition to remain on throughout to supply the ECUs with power. Be sure to read the manual and take and the precautions advised.
