I have one of these gadgets and found it fairly useful but as I only really used it for making sure I was doing 50 (GPS) when going through averaging camera on the motorway, I let my subscription lapse so I wasn't getting real time updates of the stuff it also does.
However it has stopped working altogether now, I assume it has had some sort of update or instruction over the air to switch off - is this the case? Any forum members with a view on this?
I have also replaced the battery, simple enough, because I read elsewhere that it might be that. I have also thought of firing up my old iPhone 4s to use Cyclops which seems to give all the functionality I need at a fraction of the price - again any members comments would be welcome Very Happy Geoff

I have not had experience of a RA device going out of subscription, but they merged with Road Pilot and they would send a warning that your service would be switched off in X days if you didn't pay the subscription, so I think you could safely assume that this was the problem, rather than the unit. Only Range Rovers since 1988

The attraction of the RA product is that it tells you when you are coming into an average speed camera stretch and then what your average speed has been on that stretch (RA Gem). Only Range Rovers since 1988

But but but, if you don't notice a 50mph average speed area coming up then may I respectfully suggest you send your licence back to DVLA and take a train..... Shocked

The other part is quite easy as well, don't go over 50 then your average can't be over 50 and you will be fine.... Rolling Eyes Pete

Pete, you are right, and of course if, like me, you never exceed the speed limit you won't benefit from such a device.

However, the fact that the Scottish Government has made a lot of money from the average speed cameras on the A9 suggests that not everyone is as observant. One can see the gantries easily enough, but it is maybe not as obvious over which stretches average speeds are measured, in the context of a road which has a succession of such stretches between Perth and Inverness. Only Range Rovers since 1988

So I replaced the battery but still no joy the device locks at the initial screen. So I rang Road Angel they gave me a few options, send my gadget back to then for a possible (chargeable) repair, upgrade to a newer device - a bargain at £140 - in either case I would need a new subscription £130/annum. They also talked in the vaguest of terms about a firmware upgrade might be needed to turn in back on.

I looked at the possibility of using my old smarthone (just sitting around in a box) Cyclops I think is the best it doesn't require a data connection and has a 14 day free trial after that it's £2.99/annum - yes thats less than 3 quid. I already subscribe to PocketGPSworld or whatever its called for my wifes car £20/annum and I discovered you can have 3 devices so I tried Cameralert, that also worked well without a data connection (although my phone has a SIM in it it was disabled when I upgraded) and the app is free and I can get updates using my existing subscription - also effectively free to me.

Next problem was where to neatly mount iPhone 4S but look at this (BTW it doesn't have to be an iPhone thats just what had lying around)

In my car it just sits snugly as shown, doesn't move or slide, picks up satellites, and is easy to see, obviously no power connection but fully charged it lasts a good few hours (more than enough for me). So I'm back up and running at no further expense and I don't have anything stuck to the top of the dash.

HAPPY DAYS Very Happy Geoff

Waze also has camera alert but obviously requires data. Good thing is the mobile radar units etc. that get picked up by other drivers.

I do like the no SIM/Data part though Wink MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
