Analogue to digital in-car television conversion

Hi all,

So I've done a lot of searching in this forum and other websites as well as YouTube ect. And most links no longer work.

I can not for he life of me find something to just convert the analogue tv to digital in my Range Rover vogue 2004. Can anyone at all help. Surely there would be some sort of adapter or just a new antenna ?

The closes thing I can find is a fitting service in my local area and it's £200 with a usb aswell.

Surely it can be done cheaper than that?

Any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards.

Do you have the touchscreen sat nav in your FF? If so, then the best way to go is to get a hybrid digital tv unit off ebay, they're just plug and play.
If you have the older BMW sat nav, then the analogue boxes can be upgraded to digital.
I've got an MY05 FF with the touchscreen sat nav, I got a digital unit off ebay for £240 and fitted it myself. Just be sure to get the right unit, as some that are advertised won't work in the UK as they're foreign spec units.
If you do a few searches on this forum, you'll find all the relevant info required. Thumbs Up

If you have the non-touch screen and analogue tuner you can have it converted to digital by Baris a member on this on this forum.
He essentially converts the tuner, supplies two window mounted aerials for upgraded reception, an infra red receiver for use with a remote control and a remote control.
I had mine converted and am very pleased with the results, get really good reception even when driving the car, so my passenger tells me. Wink
Baris can be contacted here...... xkaliber@gmail.com or .....navi4cars@gmail.com.

Hi All,
At risk of asking a daft question - how do we establish if the satnav is "the older BMW one"? I have a none touch screen unit. Does that mean mine is the Bmw unit? It says Land Rover when you turn it on.

As an addition, I would like to know more about the upgrades to a touchscreen version and Android. I'll do all the required reading but are there any "Stickies" on these topic that are a good start please?
It's knowing where to start that is the challenge - I've only had the 2005 td6 a few days and there is no handbook so...
Cheers
Richard

2005 non-touch screen = BMW electronics.

In 2006 they switched to Ford electronics which included a touch screen display

Topix for the manuals Thumbs Up

Thank you very much for that.
The Topix link is brilliant I'll study that tonight.
I'm starting from nothing with this car. I don't even have the locking wheel nut key!

Whistle There is a way of wiring up a cheaper DVB-T tuner and running it on the AUX channel, but you only get Mono sound... they start at around £29 from China and £40 in the UK, wiring is easy and the pins for the plug to access the TV are around £3 Thumbs Up

My player must have been replaced, it has a MK4 DVD in the loadspace and it comes up with BMW on the screen when turned on. Ron B. VK2OTC

Thanks very much for all this feedback folks. It is a big help.
I see it on so many forums where people just say, "search for it" and its not helpful when you don't know the parameters and extent of what you are searching for.
For the benefit of those that will follow my path I'd like to type a short summary of my understanding (feel free to correct me).

The early RR's had non-touch screen units that came up with a LR splash screen. These were analogue tuners and can be converted to digital (but I don't know how yet) and they can be converted to show TV on the move (but I haven't figured that either).
The upgrade option is to find a unit out of a BMW X5 E53 E39 which are quad core android (there are probably more models by now as time moves on) http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/post300444.html#300444
Or go for a cheaper option as per the previous post.

I am unclear if upgrading to the BMW X5 etc... unit allows you to use a TV tuner or a rear camera (I don't think my car has a rear camera as standard and I assume it was an option).
I have it in my head from what I've read that the existing non-touch screen LR unit has a better sound quality that the BMW unit?

Is the above accurate guys?
Cheers
Richard

TV on the move can be done by an adapter or it can be done via a cheap interface lead and a copy of NavCoder, or you could just put out a plea for local help.... some in your neck of the woods will have NavCoder Wink

Adding a rear camera is simple and does not require a special lead, but it does need extra pins adding the the TV tuner plugs, not rocket science, not impossible, but can be a bit fiddly as the pins are small. As far as adding DVB-T to your system you need to get a tuner, which can then be added in to the system via the TV tuner plugs..

Here is the pin outs for the TV tuner

The camera is connected via pins 13 and 14 white plug and switched by pin 17 blue plug

A DVB-T tuner would be added via 6 and 15 for video and 4 and 5 audio both white plug.

Here's a link for adding a camera, read it all as there are several ways of doing the same thing, but there is a cost implication for the easy way Shocked

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic24647....ng+camera,

FYI if you get access to NavCoder then you don't have to worry about the camera type as it can be switched between formats, if you don't have access then you MUST GET NTSC of it will not work
