We need good news!

Ok here goes.

All I see on here is the problems we all have with a ffrr.

It's like going to the doctors no one goes and says how good they are, so come on and tell us how good they really are,
Someone must have one that is not constantly off the road.

I once owned a 40ft yacht and that was a hole in the water which you just put money in and that was before you let the ropes go Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

But, after one sport and 3 ffrr I can honestly say, they are just like any other car. I never had a big problem, just the normal service and sometimes a new part. An alternator at 80k miles is the worst I had. I never had a Range Rover longer as 90k miles I have to say. So from me only good news. Thumbs Up


Enjoy spring....it's 8.39 h here and 19 celcius .....love it!

You make a good point Digger but I have to say you don't go to the Doctors when you're feeling fine. Forums are always likely to be more -ve than +ve as they are a source of help more than anything.

That said (touch wood) nothing major for me either. 75K 4.4 TDV8 sweet as a nut mechanically and electrically etc.

Don't want to tempt fate but apart from my nearside mirror refusing to fold and rear bushes for the MOT no issues here. TD6 with 134k miles. Smile

Gotta say have had 2 good ones so far Whistle

1. 2002 TD6 (got it at 7 yrs old, 5 owners, 97,000 miles. perfect, no probs ever. Everything worked at all times)

2. 2004 V8 Petrol/LPG autobiography (again 7 years old, 5 owners, 135,000 miles - 2 x water pumps and one radiator change in 5 years. other than that, servicing and tyres. more than a dream to waft around in)



Best tip is to choose and buy carefully. Past care is more important than age or miles. Thumbs Up

They are great cars!

Other than split top intercooler hoses, a new air con condenser and a rear caliper (intercooler and capliper are fairly common failures, the air con condenser could have happened on any vehicle) I have had no problems and everything works exactly as it should (except the TMPS, I persevered then turned it off....)

I purchased at 5 years old, one owner, 78k miles, it will be 9 years old in June with 120k miles. Will upgrade to an L405 in two years when the kids are a bit older and wont trash it as much Whistle

My one gripe is corrosion - I need to get my arches done and a replacement upper tailgate is needed - this should not happen on a £70k car!!! 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

You can't draw any conclusion on my list apart from the fact I want it right.... to me it is best to buy the oldest, brokenest (!!) vehicle and then change and upgrade what I want to, to make it into the car I need....

Some of those parts broke, the water pump, front strut, starter (too much wading) and alternator but most still had life left in them... I always well over service my off roaders as I don't want them breaking down when halfway up a mountain.... Suspension and steering is put under maximum stress and bit's just don't last as long Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Pete

(my thoughts) Its very true, that people on here, post faults, in their hour of need. and many people here, never have to do this. couple this, with the fact that many people read these posts, and dont have an answer for the problems either! What i mean is, people who dont know the solution, dont post. so, you only get a few problems, and a few solutions, to all the thousands of rangie miles driven every day.
but that aside, this forum does have a lighter side, and we can throw rotten vegetables and laughs at some weird creations, and dress-ups, and also, the clicky links to people hurting themselves, and general 'life-fails' that amuse us, on our Ipad insprired evenings etc. There are some long threads like 'what did you do in your FF today' etc, that we can all read, and we can also learn from others' mistakes, and experiences, and prices etc. -we can even dream of what wheels to buy by looking at others' pictures, or even colours, next to everyday obstacles, unlike the shiney showrooms.
So, yes, we always need a few more positive ownership stories, but there are a good few going on all the time.
i have to admit to often just reading, the 'headlines' ie, 'new posts', but sometimes, if they are a bit same-ey, i go deeper, off topic, there are some very interesting threads, long solved, that are well worth reading.
so, as I say, many drive, few post, and fewer comment. (to solve) but all comments, mean they feel your pain, and throw in some ideas, some not relevant, and some, just an understanding pat on the back..
but if we dont comment, we might not solve anything.

oh, and then, there is JOKER!
