I don't think we have set a date yet - I don't have my license but can go as long as one of you do... I also don't have a gun yet (mainly cos I aint got no license yet Laughing ) but if you fine chaps don't mind i could make use of one of yours Smile

It may be too short notice but I'd be up for an outing this coming Friday as it's holiday..??

If that's too soon then it would have to be a couple of weeks at least as I'm away the following weekend. Ash

I'm out for this weekend as I'm almost certainly out of the country from Thursday. Would be back early April. Ed

Nice one, Ash. You can start looking in earnest now for a suitable shotgun.

I might be able to do something this Friday, weather dependant. Will have to check with the social secretary though.

EDIT: I believe May's has closed down based on nothing more than I haven't heard mention of it in years. Website is closed too.

Well, Fennes in Braintree is closed, Dartford (large one) is open and I THINK JJs is open……I haven't been to JJs which is Sako's suggestion. Cambridge is also open.

Not sure what John and Mark arrange on a Friday but Sat is usually wander around on your own and mark yourself. Sunday is their competition day where they have scorers (read teenagers) but guests welcome.

If you do head there then John will be the older chap sat in the cabin doing the entries. Assuming Debbie's there then there's great food. She does something called an everything baguette which is basically most of a full English in a bap. Ed

I've not been to any other sites yet so happy to be directed by anyone else that wants to go where's best.

I can do Fri or Sat this week if there is any appetite (but as I said I don't have a gun yet or a membership anywhere)

Happy to go along with what others want or we can schedule for after a couple of weeks time when hopefully I will be better placed (or equipped at least) Smile Ash

Quick update (and quick question)

So I finally got me cert through the door yesterday morning - raring to go now...!

Question though re certificate - I', sure my FEO told me I should take a colour photocopy of it and carry that with me when I have the gun/ammo or when buying ammo etc and leave the original at home.

Is this correct - is it acceptable for the RFD to write on a copy if I buy a gun etc..?

Do you guys use a copy or the original when you go out.?

Thanks Ash

I always carry the original as a long time ago I was knocked back once with a copy of my certificate when buying cartridges I suppose We live in a world where anything can be copied the money so they want to see the original I know if I was selling cartridges I would want to see the original V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

First I've heard of being able to carry a copy, especially when buying anything, even shells. Every RFD I have dealt with has always stressed to bring the original certificate for him to note the new gun details on. If you think about it, would it be a legally held gun if the details were entered on a copy of the licence rather than the licence itself? I would suggest, no is the answer.

I would be very surprised if a shop were to accept a photocopy because it could have been doctored along the way.

Buy a certificate wallet (from about £15-50) and carry at all times you have the gun with you, would be my advice. That is what I always do……keep it in the gun cabinet so when you take your gun out, you take your licence with you.

P.S. Sorry. I missed your last post about going to JJs or Dartford.
