Hi Mick, you probably don't get much response as the subject has been already covered in various other threads.
In one of them I was saying how much of an improvement the 5.0 SC is over the 4.2 SC for having driven both.
I was given a 4.2 SC as a courtesy car when my TDV8 was in for a service, had it for a few days and I must say I was glad I had my TDV8 back as it felt so much more torquier (And I'm a petrolhead!).
I was recently been given the keys (courtesy of my friendly local dealer! ) of a 5.0 SC Autobiography for the weekend and I must say it was quite a revelation. Power all the way, extremely refined and way better in all respects over the 4.2 SC.
So I would say save up for the 5.0 SC as it is the engine the Range Rover really deserves.
I haven't driven the new 4.4 TDV8 yet but my guess is the 5.0 SC is still the better one although the new TDV8 engine seems quite an attractive compromise of refinement, torque, power combined with sensible economy.
Do we always have to be sensible would be the question?
