Considering a 2008 VSE - advice sought

Hi folks
Been looking through various sites for a Vogue SE (2008-2009) and have found one in a car dealers in Coventry - Reg No EX58LVK - grey with 20" alloys, elec steps, towbar and rear TV.
Anyone have any knowledge of this car?
Also what are the main concerns to look for with the TDV8 3.6 engine?

Any help advice would be appreciated as I don't fancy travelling from Northern Ireland to Coventry unless i'm going to buy.

I will refer you to the buying guides in the Wiki at the top of the page, for general advice.

The 3.6 is a decent engine, it does however have a couple of weaknesses, one being the alternator, and the other being the Turbo hoses and EGR valves. Have a search on these and you will find all you need.

Personally I would buy one much closer to you, then should you have any trouble you have a much easier recourse to have the problems fixed. Having to catch a ferry every time your FF throws a wobble and you have to return it to the dealer for a checkup would drive me mad.

Have a look at the DVLA mot history checker to get an idea of if and what it failed MOT on in the past. Had a quick gander and it doesn't seem anything major, though there are a couple of things I would want addressing which were advisories in the past, which may have been attended to. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Quire a bit on the wiki (top right under where it says fullfatrr.com)

The 3.6 seems to split intercooler hoses, which are a cheap fix, but worth a read as it can look worse than it is when it starts belching black smoke, so worth taking some hose repair tape on long journeys.

EGR valves seems to be the other concern, but I don't think there are any particular early warning signs, but if they go, then need replacing ASAP or bye bye turbo.

If you post a specific request, then maybe someone on here from Coventry will do a drive past & make sure it's not a complete dog.

That'll be this one, then ...

Look okay, but hard to tell from such small pics.

Plenty of advice available if you use the search. Maybe someone local to the Dealer could check it for you??? Regards,
Mick

Looks like it's shod with winter tyres. There have been people who ran the Vreds all year, but personally, I would be swapping them for summer tyres about now.

Make sure the other piece of the tow ball is in the boot - should be in an under floor compartment on the right as you face into the boot. Check the spare wheel is there and matches whilst you're there.

Make sure there is a remote & 2 pairs of headphones for the rear entertainment - remote should be in the rear arm rest.

Make sure it has the key for the locking wheel nuts.

looks like the rear arches are starting to rust, which is a common problem, and easily sortable.

the upper tailgate will need checking out too, as they tend to blister under the lip. and at that age it won't be covered by the corrosion warranty. It can be repaired but will invariably return, best way is a new boot. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks for the responses.

With regard to buying local the problem is they don't come up for sale that often and when they do they are usually quite a lot dearer than in Britain.

Like the idea of someone in Coventry area having a look at this one for me. Obviously there would be no responsibility placed on their assessment but an independent opinion would be helpful.

That would be greatly appreciated, I have emailed them asking for some more pics of the rear arches and boot area. The MOT advisories seem to relate to a damaged front screen and missing or defective undertray.

Was a couple of bushes which showed up a worn too. Check these have been done, though bushes are kind of consumable on l322s anyway. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
