I've always wanted a Rangey, I went looking for my first ever car with my old fella when i was 17 and when he pointed out a classic in the dealers I was sooo tempted. I ended up with a mkII escort 1.3.

Anyway, onto my problem. I race motorbikes and have just bought a box van to carry the bikes and shizzle around, fully loaded I guess the trailer will be 600kg tare plus 700kg load, plus a bit in the car too. My current mount is a BMW 335i that I have had for about 6 1/2 years, by far the longest I've kept a car and I'd be quite happy keeping it if it wasnt for the towing; I think I'd be pretty close to it max towing limit. So, I'm toying with having a proper towing car because this is giving me a jolly good excuse for a fatty. My preference is an L322 v8, not really bothered petrol or diesel but my normal work journey is only 13 miles each way and 7-8k a year so not really diesel territory. I'd really want it to be a model with an updated interior and I havent seen many petrol ones like this. So, I thought I'd lower my standards and consider a Sport or Discovery butI know very little about these. Why should I persist and continue looking for a FF?

Anyone want to Pex their fatty for a BMW?

travelling a distance wont put me off, I bought my BM from southampton, my car prior to that from ipswich, and current race bike from glasgow. Its a good excuse for a trip out. First time FFRR owner

Having had a disco3, a sport and then a ff I can say the ff is the one for luxury and comfort! However, and I am putting on my flameproof suit as I type this...... The disco is by far the most practical because of the load carrying ability inside and the 7 seat option! I loved the disco for its ruggedness, and I loved the sport for its feel, however the ff is in a different class! 2006 RR sport HSE

thanks ZF, thats the kind of info I'm after. I dont really need the practicality of a Disco, a FF or sport would suffice, the ruggedness shouldnt be an issue and I certainly wont be needing 7 seats so I think I can rule out the Disco.

if you get the fatty, just look for one, that has the towbar armature already on it. the removable 'drop-in' hook may be stored in the boot area, ask for it. -this way, you will avoid a chunky bill for retrofitting one.
some people think, that buying one without, means the car has has an easy life, ie not towing. but they have an easy life when they ARE towing.
you have to remember to go at 60mph tops! and not to pull into 3rd lane etc.

yeah i used to have that issue when i was towing my single bike trailer with the 335. The trailer was so stable I often forgot i was towing.  First time FFRR owner

Cheers Zepp, given a straight choice it would be a FF. I dont think I do enough miles no to warrant a diesel, it wouldn't get up to temp properly on the 13 mile trudge to work these days so a big petrol/SC may be in order

what year are you looking at and hwo much do you want to spend, 5.0 is the way to go?

I wouldn't worry about a diesel getting up to temps mine gets there in about 6 miles L322 2008 vogue

There's a nice looking 4.2 Supercharged in the For Sale section thats had a full 2012 facelift exterior done.

Yeah the oil would not be up to full running temp on a short journey like that.

I'd go for the SC they are really nice and drive so smooth, having tested the 3.6, 4.4 and the SC i opted for the SC.
