Quick question about Keyless Entry

Sometimes I need to press my finger on the door handle to unlock

Sometimes it just unlocks automatically when I walk up to the car before I even touch the door

Sometimes neither works. It won't unlock when I walk up to the car, and when I press my finger on the door handle it just keeps re-locking the car (no matter how many times I press my finger on the door handle). In this case I either use the fob or another time I just tried opening the door and it unlocked just as I pulled the handle

Surely this can't be normal?

How is it actually meant to work?

You should only press your finger on the face of the handle to lock the door. Unlocking should happen when opening the door as normal. Agueroooooooooo. 93-20

I never use the button - just walk up to the car, with the key in my pocket and open the door.

You can tell there is a split second delay and it unlocks the car but opens in one fairly smooth flow.

It sounds like you have a fault to me - process of elimination - try the other key & try other doors

The "dimple" is for locking.

The inside of the handle is for unlocking.

So, when approaching a locked car, just slide your hand into the gap (as you would to open the door if it weren't locked. As soon as you touch the inner surface (the back of the handle where your fingers would naturally grasp the handle) you should hear it unlock. Don't touch the dimple.

To lock, touch the dimple (but don't hold the handle) once to lock it. Twice to super lock it (you will hear an extra thunk and a beep). Don't hold the handle as then the car is not sure what you are trying to achieve (a lock signal from the dimple and an unlock from the inner side). The dimple is not as sensitive so you sometimes need to touch it a few times.

Does that make sense?

I always "super lock" it, but never really sure what the difference is. Why would anyone not super lock it? Does it use more battery for example? 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

i always use the key fob - cause the key less go system is not very good.  All my spelling errorz are belong to me!

I prefer the keyless...

As long as you're within a metre ( longer arms, and you may have problem ) of the car, as soon as you touch the inner surface of the handle, the locks almost instantaneously disengage and a simple touch of the dimple section locks them. Press that a second time and the super lock engages along with a Confirmation chirp.

Keeps the keys in your pockets out of halms way.

Makes perfect sense Emperor Mong. It may have been explained to me by my dealer but I was probably too excited to retain any information at the time

I'll try the dimple to lock and just go to open the door to unlock tomorrow morning

I just finished washing the car (key in pocket) and it must have locked/unlocked more than 15 times in the hour I was there. Didn't even need to touch anything for this to keep happening. Was a little annoying having the mirrors fold in and out each time (especially when trying to wash and dry them)

The conductivity of the wash water must effect the handle touch sensor.( BTW its all door handles that can be used for the feature) So I'd say it's best to leave the fob safe in the house whilst washing. That's pretty standard my old Lexus and Merc did the same, used to unlock it then take the keys indoors before washing them... wish my FF had it, super feature...  Pete

It's worth saying that I think LR changed the design to a 'dimple' rather than two horizontal lines somewhere around 14MY. I never thought the 13MY locking system was very good.
