Main dealer engine oil change

My MD (westover lr christchurch) has quoted me £420 for an engine oil change for my ajv8 ab.

II think it is extreme price wise?

It does keep the full md history, thoughts please

car is 05 bonatti grey ajv8 ab (06 factory facelift)

Cheers mark Thumbs Up

I just paid this for my L405 - but only really to avoid any warranty hassle

There's no way I'd pay it for an older car.

Maybe if you're looking to sell it very soon, then the MD history is worth something, but if not then I'd go with an independent every time.

For an oil service that does sound a bit steep.

Phone a few other dealers and then ask them to price match. Then ask how much if you supply the oil, it's perfectly acceptable at most Md to bring your own oils. I do it with mine and just pay the labour and filters. Just make sure you get the right spec, you them get an Md stamp in the book but save yourself a load of cash! Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Are you comfortable doing it yourself. After having trouble with the majority of garages and able to turn a spanner I tend to do my own. If you're not thinking about changing the vehicle then at least you'd know it would, hopefully, be done properly.

After hearing some MD stories I would still double check some things. A colleague at work took his girlfriends Ford to a chain garage for an MOT. They called him down to take a look, Ford had changed the pads at the last service but forgot to put the locking tab on the pins holding the pads in. Of the four pins on the front, two pins were missing, one was in place and the other had almost fallen out. Shocked

Luckily the car had hardly been driven since Ford touched it and they were definitely the last to go anywhere near the brakes. Ed

This may help your negotiations - still steep, but an advertised MD price Thumbs Up

The oil and filters are less than 100 quid so I'm astonished at how they can come up with that, even 199 is a bit as LR Indys are 120 - 150 ish tops and my local even does it for £80 if I get the filter from craddocks which was £15 for a genuine Smile _____________________________________________________

They justify the price by doing a whole load of additional checks - which for the less mechanically minded may be a good idea - there's a list here so you can decide whether you would rather perform these yourself.....

So you go in for a service then walk out paying a grand when addons are included, if you've a good one and keep on top of it you don't need to pay for the garage to stay open,Craig I'd trust and an indy but md not a prayer sorry as most of it is easy and checkable with a good mechanic for a fraction. Thumbs Up _____________________________________________________

is it not correct, that an 'approved indy' can change the oil, and stamp the book?

......£450, that almost makes people not want to look after their cars....

for that money, I'd want to have it done by a team of naked dancing girls! however, I live too far away from Jokers' preferred service station..

I do mine (myself) for about £50 all in. euro parts, every 4-5k. (fully dressed!)

I believe that any vat registered Indy can service/do work on any car and the warranty is fully valid, not even genuine parts are required. Many thanks

Worth noting you can get an oil change with good quality LR TDV6 recommended Fuches Synthetic 5W/30 at Kwik Fit for just £59 inc VAT!!!! (Kwik Fit)

I decided to try it on my 136000 mile D3/4 with 2015 conversion.

I took an Air Filter (£10) in with me and they fitted that too inclusive. They also checked brake pipes, brake pads/discs, Tyre Tread, Alternator output, chassis and battery!!!!!!!!

All done is super clean modern workshop on a new high tech ramp by friendly mechanics. They allowed me to watch as well.

Service Booked Stamped & Signed.

yes £59.99 go online and check....

Gets ***** from me if you do not need a Land Rover stamp.
