paddle shifters in aluminium

Hi everyone,

had a Jaguar XE for two weeks and the paddle shifters are IMHO exactly the same as in the MY 2012 L322.

But, paddles are offered in aluminium instead of cheap plastic like in the Range Rover. If I remember correctly, these aluminium coloured or red aluminium coloured paddles were also available for the L405 (?).

My question then is, since apparently they do look exactly the same, does anyone of you know if there is a possibility of fitting them?
Maybe the wiring is different but it would be nice to have them fitted.

Thanks in advance for your help guys.

Looks like a fairly expensive add on. Over £330 for a set on the bay or £365 from Rimmer. I agree an aluminium paddle set would look great, but not sure if they would even fit.

Hey guys, thanks for your replies!

Indeed, prices for these paddle shifters are extremely high. There is a cheaper option, but probably it would not look as great as the ones provided by Jaguar/Land Rover.

Without any knowledge regarding the wiring, replacing the cover shouldn't be that difficult right? I have been playing with the idea of ordering them and trying to make them fit, but if they end up being useless I would have thrown around 400 EUR out of the window.... Confused Confused

I'm not sure if you have the LR ones but here's a photo of the pre 2010 ones to assist if you don't:

Sorry for the late reply John, I have been quite busy, many thanks for the picture!!

One of the links I attached in the message above has a picture of the back of the paddles. The connectors seem a bit different, the newer ones do not have that blueish plug....let's see if I can figure something out the next weekend.

Still, thanks a lot for the picture. Will keep you posted.

Does anyone know where the ‘cheap plastic’ ones are available from? I need some for my 2010 SC

I found another topic through the search function, which said they were £45 from someone called ‘Dan’ but didn’t give any other details about the company or who Dan is.

Anybody point m3 in the right direction?

Cheers

Just picked up both the solid aluminium (with holes through the + and -) for £99 and the normal aluminium paddles for £30 as found on the L405 and Jaguar models in order to see if the mod is straight forward. Basically the paddles are almost the same as the L322 paddles, but the backing electronics trim that they fit to is not compatible, so you have to separate them and then fit them to the old L322 electronic switch trim to then fit to your wheel.

After nearly pulling my hair out trying to remove the brass holding pins with pliers I found that if you just nudge the bottom of the brass pin up with a screwdriver or flat blade of a pen knife you can then push it further and out with a small pick tool. If you use pliers you will chew the weak brass pin to bits.

I then compared the old L322 black paddle with the new one and saw that the top loop for the brass pin is much wider than the old one and stops things lining up if you are retrofitting the new paddle to the old paddle electronics back plate.

I filled down the sides and the two small buttress mouldings and after a bit of trial and error the paddle fitted and the brass pin slid through and locked into place. I then fitted it to a spare wheel to see how it looks and voila!

When doing it make sure not to loose the springs as on the old paddles they are not glued in and can fly everywhere.

The solid aluminium ones have aluminium pin guides on the back so will need some dremel action, but I might give it a go in the future once I have tried these first.

An interesting mod, quite simple to get the parts as they are the same for LR and Jag, and often on the bay being sold as used. Tom

From a previous post, maybe he can help us for the 2010-2012. I'd also be interested:
