Done just this tonight and the screen said 12.0v idle and when running its showing 13.5v.

What Craig said, the alternator is doing something, however I would also now check with a volt meter across the battery terminals at idle and confirm the 12v. If it is only 12v then the alternator is dying. It should put out 13.5v minimum at idle, rising to 14.5 when it is charging after starting.

Tested with my multimeter tonight and at standing between the + and - it reads 12.0v and starting up, running lights, heaters everything to get the alternator to kick in and it reads 13.5v max.

Found a mechanic that can supply and fit the alternator for £435.00 is that cheap or expensive? |

no idea where it is on the diesel so can't advise on the effort required would have thought part would be around £200 mark |

Very much doubt you would get a decent alternator for one of them for £200...
